can this product cover up mold and mildowe

Asked by: Charles
I am late in the game to throw in my viewpoint but for future readers I will! Bleach DOES NOT kill mold and mold spores on ANY porous surface! If the area is more than 6-8 inches, you need to consult with a mold remediation company! Trust me! I have been deathly ill from toxic mold illness. With bleach, you will wipe off the head of the mold but the roots will still be in the material. Then - you just set the stage for the mold to double down and come back - usually more than what it was before. You must do some research and make sure you use a product that will kill not only the top but the root too. Usually this involves spraying the visible mold on top - wiping or scraping at the recommended time period - and then going back again and spraying more to kill the roots and finally recleaning. Then after 48 hours, use Kilz2, etc. to complete. Always drape plastic or seal off the area you are working on, turn off your air/furnace, and wear a respirator or at least a hepa mask! Throw away everything you contaminated and try not to recontaminate any areas. Depending on how much mold you found - the spores may be all over your home.

Can latex paint be painted over oil base primer?

Can latex paint be painted over oil base primer?
Asked by: Row
No. Oil base can have latex under it, not over it. Oil bases and top coats are much more durable than latex.

This worked perfectly for my application. I purchased this to cover wallpaper prior to painting because it is an oil based primer. I found out the hard way that water base products bubble the wall paper. This didn't. Naturally, I smoothed out the wall paper seams first and then applied this. It sealed the wall paper and covered the stripes and flowers. Painting on this product was easy. It does smell like oil base paint so be sure to open the windows. It sticks to skin better too. I had a few splatters on my wrists that wore off after a day. I didn't want to scrub my skin too hard. So cover up and wear gloves. Do yourself a favor and don't let any dry in your hair. When wet and fresh, it will wipe off with a wet rag. You have to clean tools with mineral spirits (or the equivalent). I threw away the roller and brush (it was old) because the extra few dollars wasn't worth my time and energy to clean them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cigarette smoke odor gone! I was renovating a townhouse I purchased. The house was previously rented out to a family. The parents smoked inside their bedroom and bathroom. My wife noticed the smell as soon as stepped foot in the house. I spent countless hours cleaning, prepping, renovating and painting this house. It looked beautiful! When I brought my wife to see the finished work, the first thing she said was, “It stinks in here!” What a punch in the gut! To save time and money, I used a big box store brand paint and primer combo, thinking the primer in the paint would mask the smell. Unfortunately, I wasted time and money skipping the necessary Kilz primer step—what a fool! So I went out and bought the Kilz primer and two more gallons of the paint already up on the finished walls. This time, I primed, with two coats, the bedroom and bathroom walls with Kilz Original Primer. I repainted the walls with the big box paint and primer. In the end, according to my wife’s bloodhound-like sense of smell, the cigarette smoke odor was gone! Thank you Kilz! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Major Game Changer! We bought the KILZ Original Interior Primer for our cabin. The previous owners had been smokers and were extremely messy! The walls were stained with smoke, food, dirt and grime! We were worried we would never get the smell out! It was so bad we were worried we would have to replace sections of the drywall! We had to bleach the walls to get the stains out. But the smoke smell was still strong! So we used the Original Interior Primer. It took one coat and the smell was gone! The KILZ Original Interior Primer saved us thousands of dollars and a lot of time! We were beyond impressed with how easy it was to use and how well it worked! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete Cover-up !! :) My oldest son recently moved into a 4 bedroom house & although it is spacious, there was a ton of work that needed done prior to him & my grandkids moving in. The one part that scared me was the walls. Every wall painted in a bright unflattering color (red, blue, black) I immediately thought it was gonna take a ton of money & several cans of paint for this job. I went to Home Depot and picked up a can of Kilz Interior Primer paint & was absolutely shocked, yet extremely pleased how well the paint went on and the complete coverage one coat covered! I will never worry again when I see colored walls again... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blocked heavy water stains with one coat I originally purchased the water-based version of this primer, but after reading reviews, I decided to buy the original oil-based version instead. I'm glad I did. I had heavy water stains in my basement from a plumbing failure that affected multiple surfaces (drywall ceilings/walls, wood trim and paneling). One coat of Kilz and two quick top coats of latex paint blocked all the stains exceptionally well. The only downside to this primer is the high levels of VOCs. You'll need proper ventilation. Since I was in a basement, the ventilation wasn't as good as it should have been and I did have to take frequent breaks for fresh air. The area I was painiting was very small, so it was manageable, but I wouldn't attempt a large project with this primer without proper ventilation/equipment. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get the job done We just bought our new home and instead of being excited and thrilled, I was so stressed and disgusted with the smell of the house. The previous owners had apparently numerous cats which they allowed to urinate just about anywhere and everywhere! So the house stunk! I did a research on the computer for a solution to get rid of the smell and not just cover it up with new carpet. People swore by KILZ original and so I had to try it, secretly I was crossing my fingers because I thought no way would we ever rid the smell and I'd probably have to live in the backyard! We ripped out the carpet, pulled nails and staples and padding. The smell was unbearable! I then cleaned the floors and we had to even replace some subfloors because no way they could be saved. I cleaned the floors with a clorox solution, sanded the floor and started painting the subfloors with Kilz. A month later and no smell! I'm SO GRATEFUL for Kilz and it really does WORK!
