Is this tub reinforce with fiberglass under the bottom, if not what is it reinforce with?

    Answer This Question

Hello Rick, this is Lisa with Kohler Co. I am glad to assist with your inquiry. A fiberglass and resin mix is applied to the acrylic layer to provide strength. The product is then rolled out to remove air bubbles between the acrylic and FRP (Fiberglass Reinforcement Product) layers. This prevents air voids which can cause cracks. Wood reinforcements are placed on the flooring and wall areas to add strength and stiffness to the product. The product is then given another fiberglass layer to add strength. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

Had this professionally installed this week. They did not use mortar bed but it’s under a solid new plywood subfloor. While showering I heard TWO loud crack which sounded like acrylic. I don’t SEE a crack but there’s a dip in the middle of tub. HELP !

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the Kohler Elmbrook bathtub features a sleek, modern design with a low profile that makes it easy to enter and exit. Many appreciate its lightweight construction and ease of installation, while the textured bottom provides a non-slip surface. However, some users have noted concerns about the tub's shallow depth and occasional quality control issues, such as alignment problems with the drain and overflow. Overall, it is viewed as a stylish and affordable option for bathroom remodels, though potential buyers should be aware of its limitations in soaking depth.

                      Bad drain hole
This Kohler tub was a defect right out of the box. The drain hole was not formed properly on the bottom, 3/4 was ground smooth however the other 1/4 was the rough fiberglass and dipped down. Contacted Kohler support and sent pictures they agreed it would never seal properly. Returned to Home Depot return staff refunded and 2 days later I was back in store and saw back on shelf for sale. They must not of cared feel sorry the the DIY person who knows little installs and tiles only to have issues and have to redo entire tub and tile again $$$$. Kohler needs to do better with quality control this should have never been sent out. Home Depot what can I say it is shameful this was put back on shelf for sale!!!!!

                        Cheaply made and so shallow
This bath tub is so shallow that the overflow drain starts going crazy, you can hardly soak in this unless you are very short or a child. My 6 year old’s knee cracked a hole in the outer wall (left hand side if you were looking at the faucet) and the material is paper thin. Definitely don’t recommend

                          Defects and more
I returned three of these bathtubs before I finally got one that didn’t have a blatant factory defect. I ordered white one. It looked white in the store, but it is not white. I am extremely disappointed but I’m stuck with the tub at this point. I do not recommend this bathtub, I recommend digging a little deeper and purchasing a higher end tub. Looking back, I should’ve budgeted at least $1000 to get a bathtub that was as white as the rest of my bathroom.

This is a beautiful bathtub. It replaces my cast iron tub from the early 60s. It has beautif6clean lines and the textured bottom is perfect for no slipping. I was concerned about the creaking sounds when I would get in the tub, but my plumber stated that it's because the tube is acrylic. Also, the more I have used the tub, the less creak sounds I hear.
