Hi Pinky, this is Sarah with Kohler Customer Service. I'm glad to address your question. This faucet is designed for AC-powered operation. It does not have a battery pack. In the event of power loss, bypass the sensor function by turning in the override feature on the solenoid valve. The faucet can then be operated manually. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

Does the Koehler Graze Chrome Kitchen Faucet have any plastic inside the unit

We had a very special place for a new kitchen faucet and it needed to be a perfect faucet. Well, Kohler had such a faucet and it was from their Grace series. It's their Single-Handle, Pull-Down Sprayer Kitchen Faucet with Response Technology. We used the Polished Chrome model because we heard that the shine was of the most brilliant available. This faucet is extremely well built with a bold square base yet it has delicate, smooth round lines. The unique silhouette is very eye-catching on our counter. We love it and everyone who has seen it, comments on it.

(What's this)
We selected this faucet to replace a 20+ year old kitchen fixture left over from the previous owners. This faucet is a lot larger than the old one, but that seems to be how modern faucets are. Overall, we are very happy with the look. The faucet is much heavier than the old one, lots of metal parts from what we can tell, and feels overall robust in construction. Installation went smoothly, actually the hardest part of the install was removal of the old fixture. One nice note here regarding the new faucet: the unit secures to the countertop using a metal ring that hand-screws onto the faucet's threading, then two Philips screws are used to tighten the faucet to a large metal washer. The advantage of this is that if one needs to remove the faucet at a later date, you do not likely need to use a basin wrench (which to me are very difficult to use). This easy on/off design will be advantageous as we expect to do a full renovation of the kitchen in a few years. Packaging was very nice, this came in a large white box, with all parts nicely laid out and well protected. The instruction manual was very clearly worded. The sensor technology consists of a large solenoid and small circuit board that screws to the back of the cabinet. This all then requires a 120V electrical receptacle to be located inside the cabinet. I had power already going to the dishwasher, so I added a GFCI receptacle (I STRONGLY recommend the GFCI: there is water located close by, and it is now a 2020 NEC requirement). Though the external solenoid means additional interconnects for the water, this makes servicing of a bad solenoid a lot easier: I had a different model touch sink and the solenoid was inside the faucet: maintenance on the solenoid mechanism was later needed and extremely difficult to do. The sprayer has three positions, two stay on when selected and a third only works when holding the button. The pull-out mechanism works smoothly, though I have some issues since there is a lot of plumbing under my sink directly beneath the faucet, and I had some issues with positioning the counterweight so that it did not hit all of the drain piping. Overall, this is a very high quality faucet and I expect that it will least a long time. Note that you have to place your hand a bit high for it to be noticed, minor detail but I will likely get used to it.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
I have to say that I was unable to install this faucet because of a couple of issues that I will discuss, but this was not because of any quality issues with the product, which appears elegant & well-built. And I have had great experiences with other Kohler products. The first thing I noticed after opening the large box was the number of hoses protruding from the base of the faucet shank: four, as well as 2 cables. What I hadn’t realized is that, because this is a “touchless” faucet, it requires a solenoid-activated valve external to the faucet itself to implement that functionality. I had incorrectly assumed the valve for the “touchless” function was inside the faucet. Two hoses from the faucet go to the hot and cold supply valves as usual, with 2 others going to a plastic solenoid valve assembly that has to be mounted within hose range of the bottom of the faucet shank. That valve mounts horizontally inside an included 6”w x 4”h plastic box that contains the control electronics that, in turn, must be wired to an included small “wall wart” power supply (1.5”w x 2.5”h.) All of this led to a number of problems when trying to install it in our existing kitchen sink environment. If you have a modern deep undermount single bowl kitchen sink and have tried to access behind it, you will be aware that there usually isn’t much space in the back of the cabinet. Our sink occupies 17” of a 25” cabinet and is 11” deep. To further complicate things, we have a large garbage disposal that takes up even more space, but fortunately is removable for installation purposes, so it was actually feasible to get behind the sink to remove the old faucet and install the new one. But, the biggest problem was where to mount the 6” x 4” control box. Since the manual override control (to be used if sensor fails to work) is at one end of the box (it can be left or right), it must be mounted in a location it can be reached, in our case with the garbage disposal in place. The 22” hose from the faucet has to curve upward to the underside of control box, which means that the control box actually must be less than a foot from the faucet shank. Those two requirements made it effectively impossible to mount the control box under our sink. As an added complication, the “wall wart” power supply must plug in to an unswitched power outlet within 70”. The only outlet we have under the sink is switched for the garbage disposal, so we would have had to have an electrician install an additional outlet and cable it through the wall. Anyone considering buying the product should first download the Kohler installation manual and check that their under-sink environment will accommodate it. Unfortunately, Kohler’s manual doesn’t include any of the dimensions I mentioned above or even a graphic overview of the overall product installation. So, while the product probably rates 5 stars in terms of appearance and functionality, I feel it loses at least a star due to poor documentation and potential installation issues.

(What's this)
My wife requested this faucet for our kitchen which currently has a faucet that while functional is showing its age as each year goes by. Of course I would be the one to install the faucet because I am the one who does all the home repairs and upgrades when it comes to fixtures and appliances while she does decorating and painting. So what she wasn't aware of was the fact that this faucet would apparently require a 120 volt wall outlet under the kitchen sink in order to make the touch response technology function. Sadly, that isn't the only issue I am running up against since because we are still limited to a countertop dishwasher, we still require a faucet that can accept a hose attachment to the faucet spray head, which this model does not support. However, we are in the process of removing a chimney from the kitchen which will make room for a built-in dishwasher which will allow us to use this faucet at that point, so I absolutely am making this a planned install. I have actually used a Kohler touch response kitchen faucet at my parent's old house and it worked amazingly well and we never had issues for at least 10 years. But the touch response function did get ignored over time, so I suspect the same will happen again.

This Kohler pull down sprayer is really nice! The chrome finish is durable and super shiny. The touch technology works very well. It really helps when your hands are a mess. The quality of this faucet shows when you open the box, everything you need to install is right there. The install can be a bit more challenging with the need for an electrical outlet. I had to change out a single receptacle for a double. Other than that the install was pretty simple. I highly recommend it!!

This faucet is great. When you are doing dishes and rinsing off, you don't have to keep turning on and off the faucet, just wave your hand underneath. Another great feature is that it has an automatic turn off so if you walk out of the room and forget that its on, it will turn off by itself. Never thought Iyak would get excited over a faucet before.

really great faucet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To tell you the truth, I just liked the look of the faucet. A pull down with three different sprays (are excellent) and in black. without the industrial kitchen look that everyone has. I thought getting the touchless was kind of silly BUT... its so GREAT and it actually saves water because its so easy to be turning it on and off. We love it.
