Nice toilets, ruined by terrible QC
Perhaps most unfortunate is that I bought the 3 pack, and already installed 2 of them, before really noticing the issues with QC (quality control). Before installation, I had to move the water supply valves a bit (the longer bases compared to the old toilets being replaced meant the poorly placed water supply valves in our home were in the way), so I already made permanent modifications / drill holes with the intentions and exact dimensions for the fit of these toilets. So I'm kind of stuck with them. So the issues, as others have pointed out, is mainly in where the upper rim of the toilet tank and the tank lid meet. First of all, the gap is significantly larger and way more noticable than the stock photos would have you believe. Secondly, it's unfinished, and so it forever looks dirty and ghetto!!! In the guest bathroom where guests will actually see the toilet, I used some extra paint I had to blend it in a little better, but I doubt it'll last. Besides, it's hardly a true solution to the problem. I really don't see how this was missed, and how anybody at Kohler thought this would be acceptable on a $300+ toilet (or in my case, $1000+ packs worth of toilets). The other QC issue is that it seems very inconsistent what kind of toilet lid you're going to get. The first toilet I installed came with a slow close lid. Great, that's exactly what I was expecting. The second toilet I installed, I had just completed installation when, due to the last several years having grown accustomed to having slow close lids (not to mention, the exact same toilet I had literally just installed an hour ago having a slow close seat), I threw the seat / lid down - only to have it fly down at a million miles per hour and already crack the brand new seat it came with. As it turned out, it was NOT a slow close seat. So I checked the final seat assembly (the final toilet has not been installed yet as I'm still fixing up and getting ready to paint and refinish the bathroom first) - it also is NOT slow close... So I'm not even sure whether these toilets are supposed to come with slow close seats or not?? The first one did, so my brain presumed the rest would as well. And that cost me a brand new, broken seat. At least there was a bidet seat on the way to replace it, I suppose? Now I'm playing musical chairs with the seats I was given. Only 1 slow close, and 2 cheaper non-slow close seats (one of which is ruined). At least my son is getting ready to potty train, so I went out and bought a slow close, built in potty seat. Bidet went on one, and moving the slow close over to the final toilet once installed. But it's ridiculous to pay $1000+ on premium toilets, only to have the tank / lid unfinished - this is literally perhaps the most noticable spot where your eyes will be drawn, and it's extremely ugly and cheap looking. As well as to have inconsistent seats included with your 3-pack of toilets. Even though the circumstances worked out for me, I have less fortunate family members and friends who could have benefitted from being gifted new, slow close elongated seats. Overall 2 stars because the toilet does function well. The flushing is extremely well engineered and works incredibly well and efficiently, in my opinion. But that doesn't excuse the poor finish on a premium-priced toilet, nor the inconsistencies of the accessories (i.e. the seats) you'll receive with your purchase. Overall I wouldn't recommend the product unless Kohler manages to up their game and resolve these issues. Obviously get the finish fixed, but also be much more clear about what kind of seat it comes with. Considering their <$200 toilets come with slow close seats, I would assume their >$300 toilets would as well. But in my experience, this is not the case. And unfortunately I can't be certain whether this was a mistake or if they're just being cheap, like a lot of companies are tending towards these days. Photos attached. Notice the color difference of the unfinished rim. The toilet with the bidet attached shows the temporary paint fix I attempted to blend it better, but it's still not a true solution as you can see. Also note that I swapped the handles with "aftermarket" products to match the decor of the bathrooms they were going in. These toilets do not come with the handles as pictured in my photos, fyi.

Hi ILee, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Santa Rosa toilets. This specific model should have included a standard Brevia toilet seat (without Quiet Close). We do have other Santa Rosa models which include a Quiet Close seat. We have designed a secondary tank lid which overhangs the tank gap to conceal this. We are happy to send you 3 secondary tank lids. Please email us at KohlerCustServ@kohler.com for additional assistance. Thank you. -Sarah S. Kohler Customer Service
Porcelain Missing at Gap Where Top Meets Tank, Poor Quality Seat and Lid
We have purchased two Kohler Santa Rosa Comfort Height Elongated Toilets within a few months ... one in Biscuit for our Half Bath and one in White for our Main Bath. We are very happy with the one in Biscuit ... only thing on the Biscuit is that I have to keep putting it in place as it seems to move. Not sure why. The gap where the top meets the tank is barely visible. We're fine with the Biscuit. I can live with fixing it in place once in awhile. We are not happy with white one just installed ... same Santa Rosa Comfort Height Elongated Toilet. The porcelain on the White one does not go far enough into the gap where the tank top meets the tank so the gap looks dirty. The gap in the White Toilet is also larger than on the Biscuit one we bought a few months back. Also, the Biscuit one has a much better seat and cover, whereas the White one is of much cheaper quality. We expected it to have the same seat the Kohler Santa Rosa Comfort Height Elongated toilet Biscuit has which closes on its own and feels more heavy duty. So disappointing! Have to give the White one only a Fair rating and probably should be Poor, and we would not be able to recommend it for those reasons. It's a disappointment considering the Biscuit we bought just a few months prior is of much better quality ... small gap and much better seat and lid which closes quietly on its own. The features we don't like on the White one is the more visible gap where the top meets the tank ... too much of a space ... and White porcelain should have been applied further into the gap ... especially on the White one as the gap shows up as taupe. Makes it look dirty, and it was just installed yesterday. Also, toilet seat is not the same quality at all as the great quality on the Biscuit Santa Rosa which quietly closes on its own and will last much longer. It cheapens the Kohler toilet. Why is that not the same feature of the White one? The White Santa Rosa Comfort Height Elongated Toilet was installed yesterday, 09/09/2021, and it was purchased on 08/10/2021. We can say it does not meet our expectations at all as compared to the Biscuit Santa Rosa we purchased that was installed a few months ago. Can't even imagine what it's going to look like in a short time. Why is doesn't meet our expectations, in short are: 1. Larger gap where tank cover goes on tank with White porcelain not applied deep enough into gap so it looks dirty. 2. Not the same quality toilet seat and quiet close cover on the White one. The lid cover is so cheap that it easily bangs onto the tank when lifted.

Hello JoBe21, this is Laura with Kohler Co. The Santa Rosa toilet has a unique tank lid custom-designed for proper fit with the Santa Rosa toilet. There will be a slight gap between the lid and top of the tank, by design, to aid with fit and function. It is intended to display an effortless transition between the tank lid and the toilet. If you are not happy with the exposed gap, we have a secondary tank lid that will overhang the tank slightly. For assistance in having this lid sent to you, please email us at KohlerCustServ@Kohler.com. It depends on where the toilet is purchased as to which seat is included in the toilet box. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

      Poor Quality Control
As others have said, the gap in the glazing is obvious and annoying. It shows poor workmanship, as they could have glazed around and made it look better, but they chose not to (probably for cost savings). Mine was so carelessly made they couldn’t even stamp their logo on uniformly nor straight. It is faded from left to right and completely out of alignment. For over $300, I expected far more attention to detail and care.

        Bad QC CONTROL.
Lid does not fit correctly. Mold must have been bad. This is same problem that many have had with this model. Will return if this can't be resolved. This is unexceptable for a new toilet.

          unfinished porcelain
We own 3 other Santa Rosa toilets on other locations that we have been very happy with. However, the 2 toilets we purchased from The Home Depot have unfinished rims on the front upper tank, which makes the toilet look dirty and yellowed. Additionally the other toilets came with soft close lids, and the 2 new ones did not.

I just purchased two Santa Rosa toilets due to the small space. I should check the reviews before I bought them. Both rims at the top of the tanks are unfinished and show yellow color, and the tank tops don't fit well. I always thougt Kohler is a good brand. It's such a disappointment for a $350+ toilet.

              Very Disappointed
I just got the Santa Rosa toilet installed. The rim at the top of the tank is unfinished and yellow, and the tank top does not fit well, so I can see an unfinished rim jutting out. This is such a disappointment. It’s been installed and I really don’t want to have to pay a plumber to install a different toilet. Now that I see this, I started to read that others are having this problem. Why has this not been fixed??

                Great customer service from Kohler!
We read many reviews here complaining about the exposed unfinished edge where the tank lid meets the tank. We also read Kohler's positive responses to the complaints. We purchased the toilet from Home Depot knowing that we would be contacting Kohler about a replacement lid and their customer service was wonderful. Not only did they send the improved tank lid (that covers the exposed edge) in under three weeks, they also replaced the original seat with a better quality soft-close seat. We chose this model because we wanted an elongated bowl, but needed the toilet depth to be short enough to close the bathroom door. The Santa Rosa was perfect. We are also totally impressed with the flush. We replaced an old toilet that used a lot of water with each flush - and sometimes had to be flushed twice. The Santa Rosa uses a minuscule amount of water, yet somehow manages to clear the bowl every time with a single flush. We've been using it for three weeks and we're very pleased so far.

poor lid design...unfinished top of tank
This toilet works well and I like the design....BUT as others have complained about, it has a poor fitting tank lid and the upper edge of the tank is unfinished. Since the lid does not properly fit, the yellow unfinished porcelain at the top of the tank is exposed. It is unfortunate that we were not aware until the toilet was installed by the plumber. For a toilet that cost appx $330.00, I expected better. Of course it is too late to return as it is already installed. It is very unsightly and I am upset as it looks cheap. I wish I had read the reviews first. Apparently this is a frequent complaint with this toilet, and I would have expected Kohler to had fixed the problem a long time ago.
