    It is Kohler's fault, not Depot. These gaskets are designed for a different mounting direction and need considerable force to compress them. I had to shave them down to a lesser thickness and then they worked. As far as your salesperson could tell, as did I, it is the only thing like this Kohler sells.

We recommend soaking it in warm/hot water for a few minutes when difficulties arise. This will help to make the rubber more malleable and should compress easier.     Seal works fine but note that this is a necessary replacement for the seal which comes with the Kohler kit. The Kohler seal does not fit toilets with a triangular hole.
