My "square" is not square. My suspension was first raised while using it to build an archery target. The layout lines did not match up with my miter saw's cut. I thought my saw was out of alignment, but figured it was close enough to continue. Layout for square cuts in 2x10 lumber was easy and quick. Before writing this review I decided to test it's accuracy. I don't have a way to measure it's deviation, so I just did the double line test. I was rather surprised. My old Craftsman combination square, my Empire combination square, and my plastic Empire 12 inch rafter ("speed") square were all more accurate. The previous three are all USA made while this square is made in China. Using both the inside and outside edges of the blade gave the same result. See the photos. I found that I also had to change how I would hold the square. I place my thumb at the base of the blade and press into the work to hold the square steady. Doing so with this square makes it tend to rock into the 22.5 degree position, so extra care is needed to maintain a 90 degree line. The main thing that I like about this square is the fact that it has both inches and metric combined. I'm one of those guys that use both systems at the same time. I won't be using this square for it's 90 degree edge, but will get a lot of use from it's measurement markings which are very nice and crisp. That alone has earned it a position on a peg on the workbench. I had high hopes for using this square in furniture building, but was disappointed in it's 90 degree accuracy while enjoying its measurement markings .

This is the Kapro Ledgend square, model 309 (also shown as 309-12 because it’s supposed to be a 12” square). Though billed as a 12” square, that’s just a nominal number—the square’s outside measurement is 11 13/16”. As I measure the different aspects of it, it appears this it was primarily designed as a metric square because all measurements are an exact cm number. For example, the width of the blade is 4cm, the outside measurement is 30cm, and the inside measurement is 26cm. And in fact, the back of the blade is marked in cm. The square has a nice feature they call a “support ledge” (see Photo 1). This lets the square stay in position without having to be held. It also has 22.5, 45, and 65.5 degree angles built into the plastic handle of the square—see Photo 2. The stainless steel blade is good and firm with nicely etched scales. The thing that counts most, however, for a square is that it’s, well, square. To test a square, you draw a line with it pressed up tight against a straight edge, turn it over, and draw another line. The two lines should be perfectly parallel. Photos 3 and 4 show my set-up. Unfortunately, as Photos 5 and 6 show, my lines were not parallel. I repeated the test multiple times, making sure the square was perfectly up against the table’s edge. Each time I got the same results (with both the inside and outside edges of the blade). I contacted Kapro about this. It took several days for my inquiry to reach the right people (in Wisconsin) because, from the website, an inquiry goes to the corporate office, in Israel. However, once I made contact with the US office, the people were absolutely fantastic about helping me. They pulled a square from stock, tested it like I described, and sent me pictures of the results. They even included the test paper with the square. Needless to say, the replacement I received tested perfect by me too. I’m not taking any stars off for the problem because customer support was second to none. I felt like they really cared and took good care of me.

This is my second Legend Try Square. I have the 8 inch already and the 12 inch will be a great addition. These squares are spot on. 90 degrees is 90 degrees. In my woodworking efforts cutting and measuring accurately is absolutely necessary. The 12 inch rule is much easier than using a tape measure. The offset on the handle end is perfect for putting on the edge of the board and drawing or marking the cut line. Do not hesitate to buy this brand.

Well built . And great setup with flanges on plastic part when marking board but doesnt do end square ( from side to cut top ) well as the flanges make it impossible to hold tight against board but it has its uses and works great for I guess what it was designed for and seems to be very accurate

Strong and sturdy product that is accurate and convenient. Great 'ledge' that allows or quick and easy use without fussing with getting the edge right. I was nervous about the quality of the plastic - how it was installed on the square and if it would wear, warp or otherwise over time. Yet, the plastic is very high quality and seem highly resistant to blunt force trauma, denting, etc. Overall, a nice product i will keep close at hand in my work around the house.

Finally, I was able to find a square that has the measuring side thick enough to use a ballpoint pen. I have probably 4 that are so thin that can easily bend and are practically useless for tracing a simple line. This square is very versatile and sturdy, showing a true 90-degree angle. Measuring section is laser etched in inches and centimeters and millimeters. The precision is just superb, with deep lines and figures. Added degrees sections on the measuring arm is really a nice and very useful touch that is not available on other alternatives on the market. The rust resistance is superior and probably the reason why the arm is so thick. It seems that this all-American-made tool was designed by someone who wanted to spare no expense in bringing a top-quality item to the market. I know that this description is somewhat worn out, but as it comes to this square it indeed is the square to buy and forget about any others. And on top of everything it has unbeatable price!

Very nice quality. Super sturdy. Love the different angles this tool offers. You've got 90, 45, and 22.5 degrees. First time I've ever seen that on a square. Handle is easy to grip....very ergonomic design. Ruler is stainless steel, and very strong. Markings are very clear and easy to read. Pencil notches are a creative and handy idea. Wouldn't have minded seeing those same notches on the ruler as well. Very useful tool.
