Questions & Answers

Does Fertilizer last forever if stored properly? I notice that there is a expiration date. Can it be used after expire?

Asked by: Feezycam
This is one of the problems with regulations that were originally intended to accomplish well meaning and noble ends/goals. However the means to an end often have unintended consequences. IN GENERAL (and this can get complicated), inorganic things (like a fertilizer) do not need (but may be required to have due to gov. regs) an expiration date! Things derived from organic (I.e. contain carbon) sources MAY need an expiration date because they break down over time. In summary, if it doesn’t break down (or is prevented from doing so because it is in a closed container or other means-such as being stored in a Nitrogen atmosphere-it does not need an expiration date (during our human lifetimes), otherwise an expiration date may useful since a layman may not be able to easily analyze the remaining purity/quality of the remaining product.

How many cups in the 18 dollar bag? It says 1 cup for 10 square feet

I need to know how much to buy for my 30 x 60 garden. You recommend cups but are selling pounds. How many cups per bag so I can do my 1800 square foot garden?
Asked by: John
@Anonymous - Your answer appears to be correct based on @Kellog's answer, but you're confusing liquid ounces and ounces per pounds. It so happens that Kellog's formula says one cup weighs 1/2 pounds. So one liquid (i.e. volume) ounce weighs 1 ounce. But if their product was heavier, say sand for example, your calculations would be off. But A+ for effort.

I have little mushroom like growths everywhere I used this in my raised beds. I used organic soil and had no such growths until adding this fertilizer. It doesn't seem to affect my plants and they disappear after a few days. Is this normal?
Asked by: Larry
Mushrooms love damp organic matter. The fertilizer is not causing the mushrooms to appear. Reduce watering each time only when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. The mushrooms will disappear when the top layer of soil begins to dry.
