About This Product

Kidde FireX P4010ACSCO is an AC/DC powered, combination photoelectric smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that contains a 10-year, sealed battery backup and voice messaging system. The voice warning feature accompanies the 85dB tone during an alarm event, and helps reduce confusion with verbal announcements such as "Replace alarm" at end of alarm life, and "Hush mode activated" when a nuisance alarm is silenced. Kidde P4010 Series Alarms contain 10-year tamper proof batteries that eliminate the need for battery replacement, and ends worry over unauthorized removal. Users are further shielded from late night battery chirps by the unit's Ambient Light Sensing feature, which establishes a day?/?night cycle and prevents alarm chirping in dark conditions.

Q:Can you place electrical tape around the ring of light so that you don’t have To see the green light flicker every minute during the night? I need a dark room to sleep in.
by|Apr 7, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello. No, we strongly recommend not modifying the alarm as it can interfere with how the alarm works and the sensitivity and we have not tested the alarm with tape on it. This alarm specifically is made to dim the solid green light to a dimmer green flicker every minute. Due to code regulations, we don't have a smoke alarm that will give you complete darkness.

Q:I’m looking for a smoke detector that does not emit light like the new first alerts. Does this smoke detector light up in a dark bedroom?

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hello. This alarm dims the light in dark or dim areas but still has a dimmer green light that flickers every 60 seconds. Most alarms are required by code to have some sort of light to let you know they are working properly.

Light does not flash on small part of ring
Installed and successfully tested. Then green circle light went on for only a few minutes, which is okay, but I never see a light that flashes on the small part of the ring. Is this unit defective and should I return?

Hello. Take the unit down and take it into a very dark room. Hold the alarm up to your eye for 120 seconds. See what it does. If you still don't see the flash, please call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788.
I have always purchased the Kiddie products so when it was time to change out my 10 year old unit it was no question as to what I would be getting to replace it. I love that I can depend on the Kiddie Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector I know it will do the job now for the next 10 years. Thanks Kiddie!

Bought this to replace a seven year old combo detector. I like that it has a ten-year internal battery, so no more battery swaps. Simply remove the old detector and use the already attached three pin prong to connect. It also fit the plate so all I simply had to do was turn the new detector clockwise to attach a bit pricey, but it does a great job and includes an LED light

              Worst detectors ever
I bought 10 of these to replace the 10 yr old detectors I had. These dectors go off at all hours of the night, and because they are in series, all 10 are alarming. When you try to silence the unit, it tells you there’s too much smoke. I have had these detectors for 14 months, and have done everything possible to stop the false alarms, but nothing works. kidde was no help, Don’t waste your money on these detectors, they will drive you insane and go off at all hours of the day and night

Response from Kidde ExpertJan 9, 2023
Hello. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled.False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative.

Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms.

Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

10 yr battery-hard wire and Great Kidde reputation; have used Kidde products for 25 years including Kidde fire extinguisher. The voice warning for fire and carbon monoxide is great, alarm is loud enough and continues to warn occupants in our home. What I like most is easy to install; if I can install this kidde-detector anyone can. Have owned this fire alarm for 3wks it’s our 3rd alarm by Kidde in our home at this moment.

So far so good. I hired an electrician to install it and he said it was very easy. My only concern is that the green light isn't as visible as the manufacturer's manual would have one think.

                Failed after 3 yrs.
After 3 years the alarm is faulty. Non stop nuisance tripping out of nowhere. Cleaned multiple times with compressed air. After research, this seems to be a common issue with this 65$ unit. Kiddie wants me to pay to ship the unit back for a replacement. I figure I’ll just give that money to someone else for a product that lasts. Don’t do it.

Did a direct replacement of the kiddie unit from a 10year old. Wires clipped in pretty well. Didn't like how the wires come out of the side of the back piece as this made it so I had to twist the unit to fit wires into the small opening in the ceiling.
