My house is wired with Kidde Model i12010S Smoke alarms. we want to replace the ones near the kitchen with photoelectric ones. will these ones work with the others on the house system?
      ByAug 16, 2025
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hello. No, this alarm is not hardwired. You will want the 30CUA10-V instead. You will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out. You will either have to change out and rewire the wiring harness plugs at each location or you can choose to use the 20-9003 adaptors model 21032239 to adapt the old plugs to our new alarms. The adaptors would plug into the old plugs and the new alarms would plug into the adaptors.

Hello. It is possible that you can use the same mounting but probably not. Please call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the model of your older alarm and we can tell you more.

I need to replace a kidde i12010 SCO. What model can I purchase and are the electrical connectors the same as my original 3 prong connector?

                  Answer This Question

Hello. The direct replacement would be the 30CUA10 Model# 21031544. You will need to replace the mounting brackets at each location, which can be done easily with a screwdriver. For the wiring, you can either rewire the harness plugs at each location or use the 20-9003 adaptors (model 21032239) to connect the old plugs to the new alarms. The adaptors will allow the new alarms to plug directly into the existing wiring.

Great concept, but make sure you check them
I bought several of these for my house, but had to replace 1 @the 6 year mark, and now have another that I tested and its dead @ the 8 year mark. I wonder if there is a way to get them replaced under warranty?

Sham, planned obsolescence, a regular CR2 battery hides in here and they make it unserviceable for more money
I dont like this because this is like planned obsolescence. These "10 year" batteries are unserviceable simply by design. If you open this up, and you can, you'll see a plain 3V CR2 or CR123 lithium battery that you can buy anywhere. As for opening this? Yeah you can open it, a bit tricky, but pry on the left and right side of each vertical beam going around the unit, do not pry in the middle of the beam. It's a bit tricky and you may break the plastic but it IS serviceable. Managed to solder a CR2 battery and the unit works fine, except some time later again, it continues to do two beeps every 30 seconds indicating the components are "end of life"...but if you buy a hardwired smoke detector those PCB components never go bad after 10 years. I'll find another model that lets me replace with batteries.

Lasted over 10 years. They are factory dated Jan 8 2014. They both began to give the end of life chirp in the same night Feb 1 2025 - 2 hours apart.

                              A piece of trash
This thing is a piece of actual junk. I paid a substantial price for it and the second it got knocked off its mount and fell it had to be killed with predjuice. I spent 30 minutes trying to silence it but the only solution was to pull the nuclear plug and discharge the battery, rendering the unit completely useless after a totally minor impact. For the amount of money spent on this item it was completely unforgivable that it would be so pathetically fragile.

10 Year Battery lasted for Less than 3 Years
Spent a bunch of money on this thing since it was supposed to last ten years and it ends up only lasting about two and a half. Had to disable as the low battery chirp started in the middle of the night.

This item is a ‘no brainer’. Every household should have several. I recently purchased two because the alarms are both a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm. These were replacements for the carbon monoxide alarms that I already had. They have a ten year battery which is extremely convenient. Easy to install. I have one over the door that encloses my gas heater and the other one in the kitchen guarding any emissions from my gas stove. I also need to purchase one for my garage.

                                  What warrantee?
P3010K-CO. Installed 10 Dec 2019. False smoke alarms, once or twice a day for last two weeks, along with false CO alarms about 1 out of 3 times. Cleaned as recommended, with dust off spray. False alarms, verified by 1976 Edwards smoke detector that still works fine - shown in first pic. And a separate CO detector 8 ft away. No store return allowed for warrantee, with costly shipping required to return to Kidde, so no real warrantee for this unit. Looking for something else to replace it.
