By chirping or your word "squeaking" every minute or so it, the smoke detector is signaling you that the battery is getting week and must be replaced. It will do this whether it is a battery operated unit or a backup battery to a hard wired unit. If unit is 8 to 10 years old you should replace the smoke detector.

Kidde bought out Firex in 2009. That means your Firex smoke alarms are at least 10 years old and require immediate replacement. There are current Kidde models that are a direct replacement for all old Firex smoke alarms. The Firex AD had a battery backup feature that is currently used in several Kidde smoke alarm models. You may have to replace the Firex mounting bracket ti install the replacement Kidde model (included with purchase).
Hello Bill, Thanks for reaching out. There is no direct replacement. However, you can use the adapter KA-F to be able to keep using the existing wire harness. You will have to change out all of the units at the same time as they are not compatible. We do recommend strongly that you swap the wiring harness you are currently using to the Kidde harness provided
Did you test for 120 volts at each alarm with an actual meter? Black (hot) from fuse panel to black on first alarm? White (ground) from fuse panel to white on first alarm? Red to red, black to black, white to white on second alarm and so on to 3rd, 4th , fifth alarm? Keep white to whit , black to black, red to red. Did you install fresh batteries? If the green light is not on you have a bad connection in your wiring somewhere and or you did not connect in a series properly.
