Protect your family with the Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder: a life-saving fire escape ladder that offers quick and easy escape from two-story home fires and other emergencies. The Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder is tangle-free, deploys quickly to 13 ft., and attaches quickly to most windows. To prevent slipping and ensure a safe descent, each rung is manufactured with anti-slip, zinc-plated steel metal that can support up to 750 pounds on one rung or 1,000 pounds when the load is distributed on more than one rung. Each rung is measured 1 ft. wide. Red nylon straps provide a strong, durable grip for rails. Designed for compact storage, the Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder fits easily under a bed or in a closet near the window. For your safety, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends storing 1 ladder in every occupied room of your home that is above the main level. To use, simply open the Kidde Escape Ladder and place the attachment hooks over the windowsill and pull the release strap to unfurl the ladder. The Kidde Fire Escape Ladder is designed for one-time use only. Discard after single use. Reusing the ladder may result in injury or death. UL listed with a 5-year limited warranty. Also available from Kidde: 3-Story Escape Ladder.

Answer This Question

A:  Hi I'm sorry I can't answer that. I keep mine stored near the window behind the curtains so it's visible in case of an emergency. You can always purchase it try it and if it doesn't suite your needs return it.

A:  Hello. No, the window may not close properly if left installed and the weather may affect the product.

      by|Feb 8, 2023

A:  No. You cannot leave it outside anyway as the straps thar hold the rungs or ladder steps would deteriorate. They are meant for single use only and will not survive a fire if the house eventually burns down.

Q:Bottom of my window is 84 inches to the ground. Would a 13? fire escape ladder work? If not, does anybody make a shorter fire escape ladder? Thanks.

The Kidde 2 Story Escape Ladder is a great safety item to add to any two-story home. The ladder easily locks onto a window and the velcro release lets the steps down. It's fast and efficient and that's exactly what you want in case of emergency. The ladders are very sturdy feeling and fold back up fairly easy. Thank God I haven't had to use mine yet.

good combo of light but functional
I just tested this ladder. I know they say it's single use only but that's for liability and yes, tiny chance something could get tangled or go wrong in a real use. if you are at least semi-detail oriented you can put it back together again and velcro it together with the strap. only con is I have some window sills of my old brick house that are deeper than this ladder can accommodate

                  Not Suitable for Fire Drills
We have 2 kids and want to practice fire drills so the kids are comfortable using the ladder. However, this ladder is a SINGLE-USE product which means you should only use it for emergencies and you cannot practice with it.

Hi, Kuniochi! First, we applaud you for practicing fire drills with your children. One of the biggest factors in escaping a fire safely is knowing what to do when a fire occurs. At Kidde, our mission is to help keep families safe from fires. Kidde Fire Escape ladders were designed to be single-use only with safety in mind—once an escape ladder is deployed, it cannot be retracted in such a way that we can guarantee it would deploy safely a second time (in a real fire emergency). For additional fire safety tips, visit: https://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/fire-safety/ Thanks

Our window has a very small wood ledge that is pretty normal. But this ladder will NOT hang over the window sill securely. Unless you have the most bare, basic window set into a wall (with no ledge) this ladder is not a good fit. Our window ledge adds only about 1" to the width of the wall, but the white hook you see in the picture will not work to hang the ladder from it. This seems like a very strange design.

Single use only....but you need to practice
Our bedroom is on second floor and I felt we needed to practice this thing so my granddaughters would know wht to do.....so of course we opened it to practice. It took us 30 minutes to figure it out and get it untangled and out the window......good thing we practiced. Then we saw the instructions that said ."Single use only" "You need to practice". The girls did not actually go out the window, but did climb from the bottom to see if we had it hooked onto the window sill correctly. It did hold...... It says KIDDIE, BUT ALSO SAYS IT WILL HOLD 500 LBS....Whats up with that? So now we return it to the store as defective and buy another one ......and label this one defective so they won't resell it....I really don't see why we couldn't use it again...It seems stable....but I will go get another one......Now that I think of it....this one had been returned to store after someone used it....

                        Highly recommended
Recently moved into a 2nd level apartment and realized I have 1 exit! Not acceptable. One of those products I hope I never have to use. Did a little research and this ladder was highly recommended. Better to have it, and not need it...than wish I had it during a fire.
