Questions & Answers

Ive been told that these boxes aren't the safest in that if you keep entering numbers, eventually the box will open.

Asked by: MRO
awilley: I think your number, 5,040, comes from: 10 x 9 x 8 x 7. That calculation says the first number has a 1 in 10 chance of being right, the second has a 1 in 9, etc... It's based on 10 options, a sequence of 4, and that and that each number can't be reused, so that once used, the count of options is reduced. But that calculation and result is for numbers that must be in sequence. Without a sequencing requirement, your chance of getting the first number is 4 in 10, the second is 3 in 9, etc..., so we have this: 4/10 x 3/9 x 2/8 x 1/7 = 24/5040 = 1 in 210. That doesn't seem daunting, but I'd guess that just showing a lock box will be a deterrent 99+% of the time even if any number opened it. Ever seen how fast a locksmith can get through a locked door? We're all less secure than we'd like to think.

Once the combination has been entered and the cover removed, do you have to enter the combo again to replace and lock the cover back on? Or is it reset/deactivated as soon as you take off the cover. Do you simply place the door back on and it's automatically locked in place? Thanks
Asked by: HOA
You do not have to re-enter the combo to put the lid back on. Once you put the cover back on it will re-lock itself.

As others have mentioned, it is necessary to re-enter the combo to place the lid back on the base - not a big deal. One other item - the numbers are difficult to see as there is no contrast. I used a label maker to have black numbers on a white background - much easier to read. There is a clip mounted on the back of the lid which you can use to hold the keys - a nice idea.

It jammed after just under a year and now I cannot retrieve the two keys inside and I cannot remove it from the door as you need to take the cover off to get to the screws. I would not buy this again.
