Can This Grill Be Used As An Insert, In An Out Door Kitchen?

Asked by: BackRoads
No. They manufacture units for installs as you question with this freestanding unit. It is always recommended to use a unit as it's intended design and purpose...once you deviate, warranty is often void if an issue arises.

4-Burner Propane Gas Grill in Stainless Steel with Side Burner and Grill Cover is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 111.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks Good at First This grill was purchased three years ago for 799.00 and at the time assuming that because it is fully stainless steel there would be no rust issues. The exterior looks fine today, the interior however is a rust bucket. The adjustable door hinges are rusting and are no longer adjustable so the doors sag (see Photo), the grease pan under the burners has rusted away allowing grease into the bottom of the grill. The slide for the propane tank has rusted away (see Photo). The wheels which are spot welded have fallen off due to the welds rusting away (Note in photos we bolted the wheels to the frame). For the money spent and the name on this grill one would expect a better built product. Will not purchase a Kitchen Aid Grill again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely the WORST Customer Service from KitchenAid Purchased the KitchenAid Gas Grill pre-assembled by Home Depot. Installed NG conversion kit with regulator. Flame height can not be adjusted. When calling "KitchenAid" I discover that the warranty is through NexGrill. I've had the grill for 30-days. The representative tried to be helpful, however, the factory recommended adjustments would not work. I even sent the rep. pictures of the leaping flames. After 4-5 email exchanges, I stopped hearing from NexGrill. An email to KitchenAid was met with silence. The warranty specifically provides for "repair or replacement" if defective. Not Home Depot's fault, but my only recourse was to stop payment on my credit card. I will either need to purchase a new grill or pay to have an independent service company adjust/repair my new grill. Very disappointed in KitchenAid/NexGrill. A product is no better than the company standing behind it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A grill for the long haul I have owned many grills in my life. And for some reason, they all have seemed to fall apart on me. Be it poor welds, uneven heat flow, faulty regulators, or even wheels that fall off, my grills have always been forced to retire early, despite being well taken care of. This is specifically why i have waited such a long time to write this review. I acquired this grill around 15 months ago, and wanted to put it through its paces before i gave my recommendation. Everyone knows that for the most part, appliances such as these work pretty good out of the box. But how did this Kitchen Aid Grill fare in the long run? In short - Fantastically. ASSEMBLY Assembly is required. The grill was ordered on-line and delivered. It came in a massive box, with excellent packing. Purchasing this grill at a local Home Depot will give you the option of having them assemble it for you. Remote delivery does require a bit of elbow grease. The assembly when quite smoothly. Only the larger items needed putting together, such as the side shelves/burners, main burner heat shields, grills, etc. It was all pretty minor, and didn't even really require a manual. But this is much better than other grills that I've had, that required multiple different types of tools, along with multiple hours and a good know how before your first steak. I consider this one a win. ACCESSORIES Not many grills come with a cover. This one did. And it's an excellent quality cover as well, not to mention a perfect fit. It hasn't faded one bit over the last year, unlike other aftermarket covers. Additionally, this grill came with a natural gas conversion kit to allow connection to a household gas connection! I've never implemented this, but the fact that it was part of the package really made me feel good about not only the grill, but its longevity as well. DESIGN This is a serious grill. It is large and made for some serious use. Most all aspects of this design were well thought out, and provide for an excellent grilling experience. Each side has 3 hooks for hanging grilling utensils. The propane tank installation, which is notoriously difficult due to it's weight, has been made trivial by the implementation of a slide-out stand for this heavy beast. The side burner is a nice addition, although for me personally it doesn't see much use. The grates are amazing quality, and HEAVY, arguably the heaviest part of this grill. This means good quality and it shows with each and every cleaning. They are well measured and fit tightly into the top of the grill, and don't move around during cooking. The four heavy-duty casters on the bottom of this grill allow for easy movement and adjustment without any lifting. Two are fixed and the other two rotate giving the ability to maneuver this beast into tighter spaces. USE A big part of a good quality grill is the cooking area. This Kitchen Aid surface area is HUGE; one of the largest in its class. With four stainless steel burners providing well distributed heat, you can cook up a feast for many using this grill. The heating is quite even allowing a consistent flame across the entire grilling area. Complementing this are the smooth control knobs that even after one full year of use provide great control over individual areas allowing you to micromanage your zones. Additionally, each one of the knobs has its own ignighter. Most cheaper grills only provide one ignighter, forcing you to always use the first burner. Not here. It also provides for redundancy in the case that one of the igniters fails, you've still got three more! The temperature gauge in the lid gives you a good feel as to how the knob settings translate to surface temperature, and is critical for slow-cooking meats. SUMMARY After 15 months of solid use, this grill has shown that there is more to it than just bling. It is solidly designed for the long haul. It has well implemented features that are useful every day, and delivers a perfect, even, and controllable cooking experience every time. A solid win from Kitchen Aid!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful, easy grill I'll get to other details later in this review, but, first, I need to address the question that everyone wants to know: does the KitchenAid 4-Burner Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner and Grill Cover cook food well? The simple answer is, "Yes," but there are, of course, a few small changes that would make it even better. Let me explain: Ever since I started grilling, I've used cast iron grates, so using this grill's stainless steel grates was new for me. For my first meal on this grill, I threw down some rib eye steaks on high heat (placed next to each other toward the back of the grill over the middle two burners), but they came off without the serious searing I'm used to from my old propane gas grill with cast iron grates. The steak definitely cooked, so the meal was not lost, but I was worried that I would need to buy replacement cast iron grates immediately. Before throwing in the towel, though, I decided to test another type of meat, so made some BBQ chicken breasts a few nights later. This time, I again centered on the middle two burners, but laid out the three breasts vertically from front to back, rather than side to side. This time, I noticed that the breast closest to the front of the grill cooked fastest while the one at the back of the grill cooked slowest. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the flames at the front of the grill are, in fact, slightly bigger than those toward the back, so I'll make sure to place my meats toward the front from now on. It would be an improvement to this grill if KitchenAid made the burners a little wider for more direct heat exposure and also made the heat output more even from front to back in the grill. Now, it's cold here right now (Surprise! It's winter in Wisconsin!), with temperatures hovering around 0°F, but with all 4 burners lit, the grill took less than 5 minutes to heat up to over 500°F. Additionally, even with the repeated lifting of the lid to place the food, flip the food, and then remove the food, the grill maintained its temperature output. Even at more than 500°F, though, the grill never got too hot to touch (I'm not saying you should make a habit of touching the lid while the grill is lit, but if you accidentally brush up against it, you should be OK). The Kitchen 4-burner propane gas grill comes with some really nice features. First off, it is sharp-looking! All that stainless and painted steel makes this an attention-grabber, for sure (mine elicited comments including "That's awesome," "That's a beautiful grill!" and "It's a beaut!"). The right-side burner is a nice addition that allows for some extra cooking space if you need it but is a regular shelf if you don't. The grill's built-in thermometer (located on the lid), is big and easy to read. The thing comes with a high-quality cover (branded with KitchenAid's logo), which is lucky since the grill is way too nice to just leave out in the elements unprotected. The grill comes with a neat little match-holder that you can use to extend your hand's reach if you're trying to light the grill manually. Finally, the pre-installed casters roll easily which makes this thing move nicely (I've been moving it around on my snowy deck and it rolls with no problem). On the other hand, I'm not too impressed with some of this grill's other features. For example, although it's nice that KitchenAid included 6 utensil hangers (3 on each side shelf), I find their location to be somewhat clumsy and inconvenient. My previous propane gas grill had hangers on the front of the side shelves, which meant the utensils were right at my fingertips. With this grill's setup, I have to lean around to the side of the grill to get what I need. There is also no handle or other sturdy place to grip the grill when moving it around on its casters. Already, I've resorted to pulling and pushing the grill by its side shelves, which I can't imagine is great for them, but I certainly don't want to be pushing and pulling the thing by its lid! As for its construction: the KitchenAid 4-Burner Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner and Grill Cover is a solid grill made by a solid company. From the get-go, I had good feelings about this thing as it was delivered in a heavy-duty box that was strapped to a pallet. The protective packaging around the grill was intense (as another reviewer said, it took me as long to unpack the thing as it did to assemble it), but my grill has no dings or scratches on it. That being said, one of the doors on the front arrived slight askew and I cannot get it to hang in alignment with the other door. It's definitely not a big deal, but it would've been nice to start off with a totally "healthy" grill. Upon first seeing the size of the shipping box, I thought I was going to have to put this bad boy together piece by piece, but was very happily surprised to discover that it comes almost completely pre-assembled! Once out of the box and unpacked, all that's required is following the easy instruction booklet to attach the right side burner shelf, the left side shelf, and the right side burner/starter mechanism. I also liked that all of the required screws arrived already in their correct holes, so all I had to do was unscrew and reattach them to install the shelves. (As a note: the instructions say to remove 3 screws on each side but then tell you to replace on 2 of them. Replace all 3 screws -- there's no reason not to and it'll make your side shelves' connections to the main body of the grill more secure.) I was able to put the grill together in less than 1.5 hours by myself, but it would have been nice to have had a 2nd pair of hands to help. Speaking of another set of hands to help: you'll need to call a friend or neighbor to help you lift this grill if you're planning to take it up some steps to your deck. It is far too heavy for one person to lift by him/herself. That being said, though, if you're not moving it up stairs, the previously-mentioned casters make it easy to move wherever you want it. Last, and I haven't tested this feature since I don't use natural gas, but it is convertible for use with natural gas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Owned for 5+ years and counting I have owned this grill for just over five years and it is as reliable today as the first time I used it. No rust and no issues other than recently having to replace the heat shields above the burners. This grill is a bit more expensive than most people want to spend but not having to replace it every few years has paid dividends. I use mine year round for serious cooking and smoking and absolutely love it. If I eventually kill this one, the only thing better out there would be a comparable Weber. Replacement parts from Nexgrill can take a little while to receive so keep that in mind when purchasing this KitchenAid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice grill Only used this grill 3 times, but the following is my experience with it thus far. Cooks evenly and with plenty of heat, if desired. Side burner works well and there are plenty of hooks for hanging cooking utensils. The tank stand conveniently slides out using guide rails, so it's easier to install and remove the lp tank. Grill has an optional natural gas conversion kit if you have a ng disconnect. While the product description makes you think the grill might be 100% stainless body, it's not. Also, the burner controls don't have a stop mechanism at high heat prior to turning off, so it's easy to turn off the grill when not intending to. Easy to assemble in about 45 min.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for the price. A Weber may have a higher quality finish but I didn't see the reason to spend those extra 300-400 bucks. Found some minor issues with the quality of the internal coating (edges are already rusty coming out of the box) but I suspect that if I don't expose it too much to the elements, it will be fine for some years. One thing that bothers me though is the adjustment of the burners as I modified the grill to natural gas (I have a connection on my patio). The manual states that I have to turn the screw inside every knob 90 degrees counterclockwise...well, good luck with that! I tried for an hour but it did not work. Steak still come out fine though. You just need to keep in mind that the front of the burners is hotter.
