Questions & Answers

Will this remove epoxy from a garage floor?

Will this remove epoxy from a garage floor?
Asked by: TN
I haven't tried but I don't think so. Most Epoxy floors are applied to "Etched Concrete" which means the Epoxy is set down into the pours of the substrate. But if you're trying to get a drip or spot off then try it, however, if you're planning on stripping the whole floor then you should NOT use this product. It is toxic and flammable and not meant for large area application.

I love going to flea markets and finding old items that I can repurpose into a new usable item with greater design and interest than you can find in a new one at the store! This Klean-Strip product takes the chore of taking off old paint from nightmare, to pleasant dream! Years ago I remember strippers giving off such a deadly odor, my lungs could hardly get through stripping an item, even outdoors, and with a mask. This newer formula is much kinder to my lungs, but still potentially destructive, while doing its work. Before using it on a piece of furniture we gave it a test, after carefully reading the instructions of course. We found two old pieces of wood covered in white paint, and working outside spread the stripper. The small wood piece was scraped after only 5 min., while we waited the full 15 min. on the long section of wood. In both cases, we were more than happy with the results! I highly recommend this superior product!

I like to try to restore things other people have screwed up trying to restore, so stripping off old finishes and paint is a ongoing thing. When I got this product to try, I had two projects in my shop, one a chair with a very heavy coat of varnish, I am guessing Polyurethane. The other an old chest with multiple layers of paint. First chemical strippers will seldom do all the work for you, so don't think you are going to slap on a coat of this and 15 mins later be looking at bare wood, but what it does do it remove thick layers and loosens up coats. This product did as well as any I have tried and better and faster than a lot of the products out there. It did do a bit better with the paint than the varnish, but I am pretty happy how it worked on both.

Paint stripper Very good product to use on getting off multi paint layers of major amount of paint off the item. You use very much like a paint, brush it on wait 15 minutes scrape and if need it repeat. I used old socks and found they worked well. I also purchased a chemical resistant rubber gloves. I use this product on electrical box cower that previous owner paint so many time that door didn’t want to close. Since this is an apartment the cower head at least 15 layers of paint and I have to do two time and it went all the way to the bare metal. I wipe the metal with acetone and use the grey spray paint and it looks like new.

It's about 10 years old and does not weather well. About 4 years ago I refinished it, but over the past years, the varnish coating began to peel and chip. I was just about to throw it in the trash, but decided to try and refinish it one more time. I didn't want to spend a lot of time sanding it down, so I used this stripper - which worked great. Applied a generous coat to each half of the table and then waited for it to do its work (about 20 minutes). Odor is there, but not super strong. I then used a paint scraper to remove all the old varnish rather easily. There were some areas where I needed to reapply, but overall this product did the trick- without harming the wood! After a quick rinse and dry, then a light sanding, I coated with a stain/sealer. The table looks almost like brand new. Glad I didn't have to use heavy sanding as it makes a dust mess and is labor intensive. Tip: I'd recommend not using this in direct sunlight or hot weather, as it dries quickly. Also, you must apply it generously to the surface with a rather thick coat for best results.

Fifteen years ago I used gallons of this brand of stripper on projects and the old formula performed excellent - NOT SO for this new, improved formula. I know that they removed the MEK but what other stripping agents did they remove? I used this new formula to strip worn varnish from some 100 year old chairs - it took three applications to get most of the varnish off. If I was using the old formula from 15 years ago the fumes would have stripped this varnish. I will buy another brand for the next stripping project.

I read the instructions on the can, put the work on several layers of newspaper and shook the can vigorously for a full minute. I poured what I guessed I would need in a cleaned out tomato can, brushed a pretty uniform layer of stripper on the painted surface and checked the time. I waited just 15 minutes and tried using the scraper. The paint came off easily to bare wood in gooey globs with just a trace of residue remaining in the grain. I rubbed the surface with a cleanup pad and the paint was gone. I wiped the surface and cleaned up the scraper with mineral spirits. I just wish this stripper could be used to remove paint from a fiberglass boat bottom.

I used it to remove the finish on our kitchen table where some parts of the finish had wore off over time. This product is really powerful, in about 15 minutes it had turned the polyurethane finish into a jell like substance that I used a plastic scrapper to push it off with. Because it has a semi-paste formula it is brushable and clings to vertical surfaces without running. It did not harm the surface of the wood and also did not raise the wood grain surface. The documentation says it is safe to use on most wood, metal and masonry surfaces. I agree with that and will be using it on several other things that need to be stripped.

I tested this on our old steel door, where I used a thick coated, the paint removed very easily after just 5 minutes. The door was sitting directly in the sun so the paint remover dried too fast, the sections that dried did not remove very easily as you can see in the pictures. Lesson learned is to ensure you apply the paint remover thick and tried not to be in the direct south Texas sun. I tried it on stained old wood, did not remove with a towel, you would need to use a wire brush. One last tip, this has a very strong odor and must be used outside or in a very ventilated area. Would recommend this paint remover.
