The Klein Tools #88905 replacement tubing cutter wheel is strong and should hold up very well for daily use on the job. I've had other cutter wheels that are too thin and fold over, but this wheel proved to be more durable and even on light steel tubing it didn't dull or fold. It was easy to change out the old wheel and this one installed perfectly in my cutter.

This replacement wheel fits perfectly on your 88904 tube cutter, an only takes a couple of minutes to remove and replace the wheel. In my case, I order the "Replacement Wheel for 88904 Tube Cutter" for an antique tube cutter that I have had for many years. My old tube cutter was slightly modified to accept this replacement wheel. The shoulders on the replacement wheel were a little wider than the those on the existing one, therefore I had to adjust the opening of the cutter to accept the new wheel. The wheel itself is kind of thin which makes me believe that it should be used for light duty only, avoid rushing the cut, it will extend the life of the wheel.

I got this Klein PVC and Multi-Layer Tubing Cutter to work with the irrigation tubing in my greenhouse where I grow hydroponic vegetables. Some of the people-safe tubes that I work with are made from soft compounds and are just as difficult to cut cleanly as large-sized rigid tubing. The attached video shows me having a rather easy time cutting 3/16” blue UV resistant plastic air tubing; 3/16” clear plastic air tubing; ¼” rubberized black feeder tubing; ¼” white UV resistant poly feeder tubing; ½” vinyl supply line tubing; ½ black flexible poly supply tubing; ½” white UV resistant 2-ply poly tubing; and 5/8” 2-ply rubberized, well-aged garden hose. All of the cuts required little effort to make and resulted in clean, flat cuts that didn’t require reaming or sanding. The photos show me cutting ½” schedule 40 PVC grey condui with the Klein Tool. The photos don’t quite catch how easy the cut was to make but you can see how clean the cut was afterward. This Klein tool is rugged and made out of Magnesium which keeps it light. The replaceable blade is a big plus. The Klein Cutter has a serious locking mechanism. I can't speak for others, but I can say that this tool did every thing I asked it to do and did it well. I'm happy and expect to get some serious usage out of this Klein Tool.

In the past I’ve used a hack saw or grinder to cut PVC for home irrigation repairs. One time I used the garden loppers. Whatever works without a trip to the store! I tried this tool on ½” and ¾” Sch 40 PVC and the tool gives a nice smooth cut. Most people probably know this, but I learned to turn the pvc or cutter while cutting because I don’t have the muscle power to squeeze and cut straight through. The handle latch keeps it closed for safety and storage, and the blades are replaceable. Adequate tool to have in my bin of irrigation repair items.

This cutter is advertised to work with ¾” schedule 40 PVC and thin-walled multi-layer tubing like PEX or rubber hose. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any remnant PEX hanging around, but I did try to use it to cut ¾” soft plastic tubing, some ½” schedule 80 PVC and a sprinkler riser extension (see pictures). Yes, I know schedule 80 might be too dense, but it's all I had hanging around for PVC. It easily and very cleanly cut the soft plastic tubing and sprinkler riser – nice square cut, but I couldn’t even put a dent in the ½” PVC. Another reviewer states he successfully cut schedule 40 PVC, but it took a substantial effort to do that. My experience cutting the soft plastic tubing suggests this is probably best fitted to cutting low-density polyethylene sprinkler pipe, drip irrigation tubing, or “funny” pipe used for sprinkler heads, but not PVC. In most cases, making square clean cuts to soft irrigation pipe is not critical anyway because soft pipe is seldom mated to a receiving joint and glued (as rigid PVC pipe would be), instead they are clamped in place. Still, this tool, has some nice features. Except for the blade, the body is plastic and will not rust if exposed to the elements, and it has a nice thumb-actuated lever to lock the jaws closed. Although the blade can be readily replaced using an Allen key wrench, my guess is that the blade design is proprietary and may therefore, not be widely available. This tool provides a nice square clean cut for soft plastic hose and pipe, but I believe it is a bit costly for such a limited application. Ordinary PVC ratchet cutters costing much less effectively cut both rigid PVC, and softer sprinkler/irrigation pipe. I would not recommend this tool.

Although this product advertises that it can cut ¾ inch schedule 40 pvc pipe, I did not find it to work very well for that purpose and I would not recommend it for that. I used it to cut some ½” schedule 40 PVC, and while it did cut it, it took almost all my arm strength to make the cuts. In the description it says do not cut cold PVC. I am not really sure what they mean by that. My pipe was all room temperature and certainly not cold. If they are suggesting to heat up the pipe before cutting, then I guess I didn’t do that and have never had to do that with any other type of PVC cutter. A ratcheting type cutter is more appropriate for cutting PVC. I assume this cutter works much better with PEX and other types of flexible tubing as they are all a softer material.

Bought wheel hoping it would fit my Greatneck TC-7 tubing cutter. It fit perfectly and I now have a sharp blade for my cutter.
