A: Yes it is absolutely hard enough to scribe in mild steel. You can even take a hammer and make a dimple before you drill. It works great for making a pilot hole in a stud through Sheetrock.

Answer This Question
A: It is tapered so it starts small enough to make a starter hole for a #6 screw up to about 3/16”.
It works great for plastic anchors. I use it all the time to start a hole in a stud for a lag bolt when mounting a tv. It’s also very sharp and have poked myself more than once.

Works well as ice pick
High quality tool would buy again. I use this as an ice pick. way nicer than actual ice picks and about the same money. nonslip handle is great. I dulled the tip just a little, so it's not so pointed.

Fine tool, and have used it more than expected. I made a sheath for it out of a long Styrofoam fishing float that fits really well, something to consider to tame the sharp end. Now it fits safely in a pocket of my open tool kit, ready for use.
