What is the use case where I would want a multimeter that is capable of measuring more than 600V?...

Don't mean to seem short, but.if you don't know if you need a multimeter that measures over 800 volts, you probably don't need a meter that measures over 800 volts. A homeowner would most likely never need a meter that measures over 800 volts.

This is my second Klein MM. I also still use my MM200 often. As a Biomedical equipment tech I find Klein tools to be very reliable as well as user friendly. The accuracy and reliability are very important to me.

Love it! It's light, it is housed in a rubber lining in the case of dropping it on pavement, and it has a light! Also, on the rear of the multi-meter, it has these indention's that hold the multi-meter test probes! It's inexpensive at $50. You can't and will never go wrong with an investment in Klein Tools!

Seems to work well, but I have to get used to what the symbols mean. I am not someone who does a lot of electrical work, but it was still simple enough for me to start using right away. Only downside, it really should have come with a case or stow bag or something to put it in after use.

Not great but... I didn't want to write a review, but after seeing so many people complaining about the length of the probes I felt the need to respond. Folks, you need to remove the end caps on the probes, then there will be enough exposed metal to insert into an outlet. The 2mm of metal that is exposed with the caps on isn't intended to fit into an outlet. I am giving the meter two stars because after 4 months (perhaps only 10 uses) the meter doesn't produce any accurate readings. It turns on, continuity checks out fine, but put it on a voltage source and it jumps a little then reads zero. My $9 Harbor Freight meter has lasted 20 times as long. I only bought this one because I needed the min/max function for a science project. Hopefully Home Depot will replace this or at least give me store credit.

i like the auto ranging as i'm now 70 yrs young and trying to see the small lettering on most meters is hard without getting my reading glass's and the beeping when i'm trying to find a short or an open circuit is nice but i wish it was a little loader but over all it's a good buy! i wish it had the clips to go with it as there are none in the store

Klein Voltmeter
I bought this multi-meter to replace my 20+ year old multi-meter. This thing is absolutely amazing. First off the construction of this thing is very rugged. This unit has a rubbery texture so it won't slide on a slippery inclined surface. The probes have protective caps and can be easily switched between the different terminals on the unit. There's also a probe for measuring temperature which is awesome. If you’re not sure what voltage range to select, probe anyways because it has a nice auto detecting feature. The LCD screen is nice with big clear numbers to display. And it's also back-lit for when the lighting isn't too well. And lastly it has a very convenient kickstand built in the back side. I can see this thing lasting a very long time. Very good investment as I highly recommend this multi-meter.

Good all-around meter
Overall, this meter does everything you would expect it to do when you think of a multimeter. Compared to other meters that I have, it's accuracy is usually right on with all of the others, averaging within about a 1-2% window. It is difficult to tell which one is right, but within the group, this meter pretty much is just as accurate as the rest. Other reviewers have been upset with the probes that come with the meter. I do not understand why, unless they do not realize that the plastic tips can be removed, revealing a much larger contact probe. That is on them for not reading the manual. The temperature probe is a basic thermocouple, which is a very well established measurement device for temperature. It is good for getting an idea of the tempurature, but if you ever need a precise, accurate temperature measurement, you might want to grab a different tool. Side by side with my thermal camera, I trust the camera over the thermocouple anyday (emissions, etc., accounted for) if I need precise readings. The ability to just have a small probe with me means that I do not need to carry around another specialized tool for everyday use. This tool does everything I would like it to do, including DC current. I wish that the probes would have come with some type of an alligator clip attachment, that is always handy to have around. Battery life seems within expectations of tools in this class.

Small But Packed With Features
This Multi-Meter is smaller than any other meters I have seen and it packs all the features of much larger units. This unit is only 6" x 3" x 1.5" thick and weighs in at only 8.5 ounces. This meter has a impact resistant non-removable outer shell that surrounds the feature rich front panel. Everything needed for almost any test or measurement is packed into a rather small area. The buttons and dial selector are on the small side but that’s to be expected since the meter is so compact. One area they didn't make much smaller is the readout screen. This makes it easy to read even when testing in tight areas like under a dash. The meter has a very nice backlight but the button needs to be held for a full second unlike all the other buttons that react when pushed. So if you are expecting the backlight to come on instantly it won't. The meter does have an auto shut off after 30 minutes. I like the longer time before auto shutdown since some tests take more time to setup and accomplish. Not real fond of the back light going out after 5 minutes thou. I turned it on I can turn it off, don't need it turned off for me. There is a down side to the readout, if you are looking at the screen from above mid-line the LCD starts to wash out. So you need to be looking at the display from mid-line down. Not uncommon but I wish that with today's tech they could have mercy for people that don't always work from a bench, as in under a dash and upside down. The meter comes with a standard set of color coded probes that have tip shields and it also comes with a nice temperature probe. One of these days I hope that meters of this caliber come with a set of back probes. We are in the computer age and back probes are really a must now days. This is a very good meter and it's become my go to unit since its small, light weight and the readout is nice and large. There is a magnetic strap that’s listed as an accessory; this should have come with the meter and not been an added accessory.

Same old design
I have 4+ multi-meters. The trend with the new style ones such as this Klein MM400 is really irritating. First, the probe tips do not fit into a typical wall outlet. Why? Second, the probes are unique to the MM400. So if something happens to your probe, you will have to go to Klein for another replacement. The batteries. Requires a Philips screw driver to install batteries. Why? Most home owner, DIY multi-meter users will use this tool a couple times a year. It's really annoying having to remove batteries for storage and then add batteries to use the tool and chase down a Philips to do so. Pet peeve maybe, but you don't want to leave batteries inside during a long storage period. The MM400 is very light and fits in the palm of my hand comfortably. It has a fold-able stand bracket on the back which allows for vertical placement. The male ends of the probes fit snugly into the female meter receptacles. The selection knob has very positive movement and clicks loudly while rotating. The display is digital and is pretty easy to read. The temperature probe is something I will likely never use, but when I tested mine, it worked very well. It does take an unusually long time for the temperature to go down after touching something warm. Sunlight will effect the reading. For casual use, this is a decent meter. The instruction manual was very good and simple to use.
