Klein Tools IR5 is a professional dual-laser targeting infrared thermometer, offering a wide measurement range, a tight 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio, dual targeting lasers, and several calculation modes to facilitate different temperature measurement applications. The dual lasers assist in targeting the measurement area. The distance between the two laser spots on the surface of the object being measured approximates the diameter of the circular measurement area from which the infrared sensor is collecting data.
Optical Resolution (Distance-to-spot) is 12:1
Features include dual-laser targeting; auto-scan; max/min/avg/diff; high/low alarm; backlit display; auto power-off
Drop protection to 6.6-feet (2 m)
Measurement Range: -22-degrees to 752-degrees F (-30-degrees to 400-degrees C)
Not a medical device; thermometer is NOT intended for use on people or animals.
Uses one 9-volt battery, with battery life expectancy at 10 hours of continuous use with laser and backlight on
Includes custom pouch and batteries
Adjustable emissivity
Soft-touch, over-mold housing
For ambient temperatures above freezing, the accuracy is +/- 4-degrees F or +/- 2-percent; Accuracy below freezing is +/- 4-degrees F plus 0.2 degrees per degree below 32-degrees F
Certified to IEC EN 61326-1.2006, EN608251.1994+A2.2001+A1.2002

Answer This Question
A:Â When measuring temperature the meter continuously samples the object being measured.

Q:The display on mine has everything lit up and on. It doesn't work. Can it be reset somehow. I thought Klein made hood stuff but what I've bought from them lately just sucks.

IR5 Dual Laser Infrared Temp Gun
I am an Electrician and I use the Klein IR5 dual laser for baseboard heaters, transformers, electrical panels, etc.
I like the features: Backlight, temp max, min, avg, material settings, and data hold.
Its sits comfortably in the hands, compact and easy to use.
In the demo photos, I am testing the temp on the glass. I set the Emissivity setting to 0.93, which will give me a more accurate reading.
I highly recommend this tool to the various trades.

Great value very accurate compared to a NIST unit. It’s used to measure PV module temp for solar farm commissioning. Would definitely recommend.

Great, High Quality Thermometer
This laser thermometer is a great quality buy. At less than $100, I would put it up against others I’ve seen & used that are upwards of $500. The features like the memory and average are great. The laser points for the sampling area are precise. The manual is easy to use, making it virtually idiot proof. I would recommend this product to any individual who does any type of mechanical work.
This little guy works pretty well.
Display is easy to read, functions are plentiful and easy to navigate.
Somewhat ergonomic and fits comfortably in my hands. Also has a rubber coating on the handle to prevent you from dropping it.
Comes with 9 volt battery and ready to use out of the box.
The dual lasers give you a better idea of the area you are measuring.
I feel like between 6" to 2' is the sweet spot. anything more than 3 feet and I was getting interference from other objects. Could just be the things I was measuring though.
This will save the high temp, the low temp, or you can hold down the trigger to constantly read real time changes.
There are some compensation settings for different variables but nothing I needed so I didn't mess with those much.
Backlit display that is very visible in the daylight or in a dark room.
Will measure in fahrenheit or celsius.
I actually used this to measure hot spots in my computer case so I could adjust my cooling system. Worked great.
At 12:1, targeting, you can get a nice 1" spot at a foot distance, which gives a really good reading. But you know what, even at 12 feet away, my reading is not too bad for a big surface like a roof.
Other features are high, low, avg readings. The emissivity is adjustable, but I generally just leave it .95 because the stuff I like to read is dark or organic.
My favorite use is for my grill. I can shoot the back splash above my grates to get a real reading of the inside temperature. (Shooting the grates is tough because you are also reading below the grates.) Why do this? Well, I sometimes have trouble adjusting between winter and summer slow grilling. This way, I can set the same temperature for both winter and summer grilling. There's a surprising difference in the gas flow between the two. And this gives a better reading that the analog probe stuck in the lid. The key is this little device gives me the consistency I need for good grilling. It is not a meat temperature probe, but rather a way to know my grill is consistent all four seasons.
Another use to save my arm from burns: shoot the engine and exhaust manifold of my car before trying to access the oil filter.
Well, without going down in my crawlspace, this thing has confirmed that insulation has fallen down under my kitchen floor. It accurately measures temperature differences of .2 of a degree F, which is more than enough to gauge whether or not there is insulation under the floor.
Aside from a wide range of temperatures I’m finding around my house, I’ve also used it to accurately set the house’s furnace thermometer and correctly set my fridge. The features on the device allow to just scan an area and find the Mmx, min, difference and average. This is perfect for quickly find cold or hot spots in a broad area. The dual lasers allow you to easily tell where you are pointing and measuring. The lasers can be disabled with a hold of one button.
Results are instantaneous and the controls are very easy to understand. With a range of -22 to 752F, an DIYer like myself will be hard pressed to find a temperature out of range (unless I try to measure the temperatures on my BBQ, I suppose). It is very lightweight and comfortable to hold.
Another fine example of a Klein Tools device.
Another acquisition of a Klein branded tool and once again this cordless portable infrared thermometer does not disappoint. Uses a standard 9-volt alkaline battery which is readily available everywhere. I previously had a high end Milwaukee infrared thermometer however it was stolen making this Klein unit a perfect replacement. Home Depot pricing is not only competitive but inexpensive enough so if misplaced/stolen it is a inexpensive replacement. This Klein model IR5 comes with a added storage pouch and a starter battery. Perfect for low light conditions since this has a backlit screen. This handheld thermometer automatically shuts off when not used thereby prolonging battery life. This Klein thermometer is housed in high impact plastic and will survive a 6+ foot drop. There's even a cutout to attach a lanyard or ring which makes it easier to attach to you tool belt.

Not bad for the price. Gives me decent mid range temperature detection without too much spread. The LED console has a choice to light up or not to conserve battery. Overall, this gun has been an excellent addition to my toolbox for the value.

The Klein Tools IR07 is a dual IR (infrared) thermometer and probe thermometer. This rugged pocket thermometer measures temperature from -40 to 572-Degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 300-Degrees Celsius) for both IR and probe measurements. The IR thermometer has a Distance-to-Spot ratio of 8:1 and the target laser can also be used as a laser pointer. The Probe accurately measures air, liquid and surface temps and has a convenient hook for hands free indoor measurements. The IR07 quickly calculates differential temperature (T1-T2) and has a backlit LCD for easy viewing in low light.
