A solidly made, all metal tool for tensioning and cutting tails off wire ties, these “pliers” type tool will accommodate wire ties (nylon) up to 15/32 inch in width. One half of the grip surface (the darker, non-chrome side) is provided with an integral plastic grip for comfort. The chromed side of the tool does not have the plastic grip, but is flared out at the end for comfort and ease of gripping, though the ergonomics come up a little short if one were to be using this a lot. A spring loaded, and adjustable, cut-off blade is incorporated into the mechanism to automatically cut the tail off the tie when a pre-determined tension has been reached. A threaded adjustment, with a knurled adjusting screw, is provided to increase or decrease the tension level. Unfortunately, no calibration or indicator is provided to facilitate setting or resetting for a particular application. If the tension is set too high (for the width tie being used) it will have a tendency to “snap” the tail off before the cutting blade operates. The blade is cut at a bevel, resulting in a cutting rather than a shearing action. If you are using a narrow tie, and do not align the tail precisely in the “window”, the resulting cut may be a little ragged. All of the pivot points comprise grooved pins and “C” clips for retention, indicating that repair/replacement of wear parts might be possible. Regarding the warranty, the user is directed to see the retailer or visit the Klein Tools website. In summary, for repair type use (as opposed to production), where the same type and size of tie is frequently used and tension adjustment can be “good enough” (and some ragged tails are okay) these would, no doubt, be the last tie tool you would need, due to the robust construction. If the lack of “reach” afforded by the “pliers configuration” is adequate for your needs, this would fit the bill.

You should do a few tests on setting the tension before it cuts the tie. If you set it too tight, it will break the tie. Easy adjustment and it works great.

Sturdy tool. Seems like it will last. Control to adjust the tie tension has no “scale"-turn right to increase, left for less. Nylon ties ratchet through tool until it reaches set tension and automatically cuts off. May waste a few finding the desired tension.
