Unfaced fiberglass insulation batts are noncombustible per ASTM E136 and can be used where noncomubtible insulation is allowed. Unfaced fiberglass have surface burning characteristics of flame spread index of 25 or less and a smoke developed index of 50 or less, which meets all national buiding and mechanical codes for insulation.
My home is in climate zone 3. I want to insulate attic floor with fiberglass rolls. Is a vapor barrier needed/recommended? If so, does faced side point to exterior? Can I then lay unfaced roll on top of faced roll to achieve desired R value?
You will need to check your local buidling codes to determine if a vapor barrier is required in floors. If this is in the crawl space, kraft facing shold always face to the warm side of the structure.
