SmartKey Security is kick-in resistant, bump proof, pick resistant, drill resistant, and saw resistant. Kwikset SmartKey Security also allows you to re-key the lock yourself in seconds, leaving lost or unreturned keys obsolete.
Re-Key as Easy as 1-2-3
Before you start re-keying, you must have your functioning key, your new KW1 key, and the SmartKey Learn tool.
Step 1
Insert the key that currently operates your lock, and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise.
Step 2
A) Insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole.
B) Remove the SmartKey tool and the current key.
Step 3
A) Fully insert your new key into the lock and rotate it 180 degrees.
B) Rotate the new key 90 degrees back to the starting position, and remove it. Your lock is now
re-keyed to your new key, and your old key will no longer operate the lock.

Always used all Kwikset. Until now. Spent $79 on this. I understand its not the top of the line, but should be functional and presentable still. Not the case. The “brass” is wrinkled and moving to the touch. The interior doorknob feels and looks like a closet doorknob from a cheap motel. And it pulled off in my hand after installation. The interior snap ring came off inside. I fixed it, for now. Oh and no amount of adjusting keeps the plunger from sticking. Id take it back but the packaging got thown out. Beware

WOW!! This was such an easy install. I had no idea how much it was until I did it. I do believe that i didn't have to replace this whole assembly. That all I needed was to replace the closing mechanism inside the door knob. In any case, the whole assembly was over 16 years old and the color was gone and since we just had the house repainted it seemed like the right time to get something as brand new looking as the paint on the house. This is a great unit. And what I love the most out of this, is that after you install it, you don't have to use the supplied key if you don't want to. You follow the instructions and it shows you how easy it is to re-key the lock so that you can use it with your current lock key!! Sweet Deal!!

The lock set was not compatible with a left hand in swing door i even did a video chat with a kwikset rep and he agreed that it was not compatible with that type of setup and isn’t truly universal to all doors

The lockset is a good value for the money but doesn't seem to be the best quality. It looks to be adequate but the metal is light and average quality. I don't know the longevity.
