        Answer This Question

A:  Kwikset model # 925 KEVO DB 11P comes with SmartKey technology which can be re-keyed at the consumer level by following the re-keying instructions, but is not compatible with other brands.

        by|May 5, 2023

A:  No. It only works with the same type of key. It will match any quickset key.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  Only if you can get the key to go into a Kwikset lock. I have a non Weiser lock on my security door that is compatible with Weiser (not kwikset). But I know Weiser is not compatible with Kwikset and will not work. Does home depot have demo units? If you could see if the key can be inserted fully, you could tell.

              Just touch and go!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's been a almost year since I had 925 Kevo installed. I love it! My car has touch lock so I thought why not have a keyless entry for my house too! Now , every once in a while Kevo does not work , like I have to touch the Kevo lock several times or pull out my Key Fobs to Re activate to open the door. So far, I love it and hope it will Last !!

Cool idea but just not ready
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cool idea but still needs work. Fob keys are not always working and the iOS app hasn't been working well with me since ios9 and I've had nothing but headaches. The trick is kinda the same process as taking out your keys. I just open the Kēvo app and I walk up to the door and finally I was able to get it to unlock. Leaving the phone/fob key in you pocket has been a big headache and it doesn't always work for me. Installation is really easy and the end results make you feel like you have an awesome looking house especially when people ask how you opened the door without keys. It's a cool idea it's just not ready yet and needs improvements.

Fantastic update to an already great product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] From the moment I opened that packaging I knew I was in for a great experience with this lock! The quick start guide and information is easy to follow and in the perfect order of you to get started as quickly as possible. Once you open the various areas of the packaging you can lay out all the necessary installation accessories that come with the lock to make sure you have everything you need for fast and easy installation. All of the screws come packaged in separate packets labeled so you can wait to open them in that step of the installation which makes it easy to identify them quickly and not lose them. Everything is secure and safe for shipping and the packaging is very well thought out as you can see from my photos. I will talk about some immediate impressions below after install and usage as well as later in the review actually talk about the ease of install. The largest immediate noticeable advances in this lock over the 1st Gen (I have owned for about 18 months) is the speed of the lock mechanism on activation and the smoothness of the internal lock when you turn it with your thumb. Everything just moves freely and without any hesitation making it an easier lock to use then even a standard deadbolt. The interior aesthetics of the lock mechanism have also be refined giving you a smaller panel sitting on the door which makes it less intrusive if you are putting this into a room you sill see it from on a regular basis. Not to say the Gen 1 was obtrusive but the Gen 2 definitely is a welcome reduction in size! I would highly recommend this lock to anyone looking to add an electronic deadbolt to their home. I have had excellent response at the lock from any device used to lock or unlock from outside the door. I also have the Kevo Plus Gateway for remote locking and this connected to the new lock with ease and has been used several times for remote locking without any issues. No matter whether you are just replacing an existing deadbolt or installing one in a brand new door the Kevo 2nd Generation should be relatively easy for even a beginner or seasoned DIY’er to complete with basic tools and minimal time. I downloaded the PDF Instruction Guide first as that is my usual go to on any installation like this but then I decided to give the Interactive Installation Guide a try. I am glad I did as I found it very easy to follow and loved the interactive videos. Each step shows you ample pictures, diagrams, written instruction, and even a demo video on most of the steps. It will guide you step by step on the install first asking you if you need to drill a hole for the deadbolt or prep the frame for the latch. If you need to do these steps you can print out the directions complete with a template to tape on to the door. I followed these on a previous install and would state this is a more of an intermediate project as you need a hole saw and a chisel to prep the door and frame properly. I went and purchased these and after watch the demos on line completed it in about 45 minutes. I had never chiseled a frame before so this is what took me the most amount of time to get right. If you already have a deadbolt and are just replacing then the interactive guide will now take you through step by step to install everything in the door and then set it up for connectivity to your device. This install to replace an existing Deadbolt and Striker along with a rekey using the SmartKey Technology took approximately 30 minutes. After the install I moved the Kevo Gen 1 to another door and it connected immediately through the app. We now have two doors conveniently secured and connected through the Kevo Plus Gateway for remote locking and unlocking. I utilize various technologies in my home from all different smart home ecosystems from thermostats, to light switches, to leak sensors and everything in between. I decided to go with Kevo for the convenience of the touch to open features and this has held strong for 18 months to be a strong choice and the right one for my home and family. It makes it convenient to come home and if your hands are full just touch the lock to unlock and have the sense of security to actually hear it an see it unlocking. Other locks I had tried had various geofencing and sensor technology to automatically unlock when you got close but I always had this feeling in the back of my head ‘was the lock every really locked’? This is why I switched to Kevo and have enjoyed the visual and audible feedback of making sure the door is secure. The support is fast and efficient if you need any help whatsoever and the product has a robust warranty period if you were ever to need it. Give the Kevo 2nd Generation a try and I feel you will be impressed!

                    Very Convenient
Great lock, no fumbling for a key. My car has a smart key and I had to carry a key just to open front door. Now I don't have to carry keys anymore and I can check to see if door is locked or unlock it from anywhere. Very Convenient

                      Good Idea
These units have been installed for over a year now and have worked well... Except: Needs range (or single strength) improvement. Example - if phone is inside a purse or bag. It will take longer to operate the lock! Security: 10 Single strength: 5 Ease of use: 9 Battery usage: 9 Style: 9 Ease of installation: 7 (with no previous experience), 9 (with previous lock experience) A great improvement would allow the Bluetooth to connect to a wifi hub!!!

Works most of the time, too sensitive
I love this when it works, but sometimes it won't connect with my phone unless I open the app. I have the latest software on the Kevo and my phone too. My biggest gripe though is how easily it activates when I'm just brushing by it with something in my hands, or someone else opens the door and somehow it manages to sense my phone 20 ft away then push the bolt out so when the person who opened the door goes to close the door, if slams the protruding deadbolt into the wall. Then it acts weird and I have to unlock and lock it through the app a few times. Additionally, the knob on the inside of the deadbolt jiggles and feels very cheap, not like a solid metal lock. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone until Gen 2 arrives or the sensitivity issue is addressed. Also in the winter the thing whines like it barely wants to lock and unlock.

Response from Community ManagerApr 20, 2015
Zeid, Thank you for your feedback on Kevo! Our engineers are working diligently on Kevo 2.0, and feedback from consumers is helping to develop the new product. We are going to have a member of our customer service team reach out to you as soon as possible to help sort out the sensitivity issues you are experiencing. We hope to make your future experience with Kevo great! Thank you
                          No more keys
With my car being push to start I was looking for a way to ditch my house keys. Kevin was the perfect solution. I now only have to have my phone in my pocket, no more keys to scratch my smart phone. The downside is my Kevo is way too sensitive. When I walk out the door and my body lightly brushes the Kevo, it locks. Not a huge problem because my phone is in my pocket. I would recommend a touch twice feature.

KEYS? Where we're going, we don't need KEYS!
I am writing a review for the new Kwikset KEVO Bluetooth enabled deadbolt for iPhone. I got the Venetian Bronze color to match my home decor. This unit is also available in brushed nickel and gold. Out of the box, the parts are packaged well and there were no missing pieces. The instructions were easy to read and thoughtfully written for the novice consumer. My current deadbolt is a Kwikset, so I did not have to remove the strike plate or the internal door mechanisms. However, for the purpose of this review, I removed all the guts and used what they included. I LOVE the fact that Kwikset includes 4 AA batteries! I never seem to have batteries at the house when I need them. Also included are 2 steel keys and a wireless key FOB, for use without keys or an iPhone. You don't have to take out your existing Kwikset door guts if you want to save time and a bit of headache. If your door is already setup for Kwikset, you can keep it. Next, I simply measured my door to make sure that I had my settings correct. Kwikset gives you 2 different door dimensions for easy install. I placed the deadbolt into the door and fished the 2 wires through the bottom of the lock mechanism. I then married up the backplate on the inside of my door. I used the gold colored screws to secure the backplate to the deadbolt and tightened them with my hand held screwdriver. DON'T USE A POWER DRILL! I connected the wires to the main power unit and securely fastened it to the backplate with 2 small machine screws. Lastly, I held down the program button and dropped in the battery pack. BEEP! -this sound started to put the lock into test mode to make sure the lock was calibrated to open and close. After install, I downloaded the KEVO app from the iTunes app store and installed it. Once registering the app, I removed the back cover to the KEVO and pressed the program button and then held my iphone to the backplate to "PROGRAM THE KEY" to my iphone. Once this was done, I re-keyed the lock to use my existing house key. (SEE VIDEO). This lock is built extremely well. It was easy to install and took only 21 minutes. The app is handy and easy to use. I like that I can send "virtual keys" to anyone that has an iphone. This helps for when people come to town and I don't feel the need to go get a key cut. I'd recommend this lock to anyone that is forgetful with keys but ALWAYS has their phone. The retail price is fitting for the features and quality of the lock. To open the door, have your iPhone or Key FOB on your person. Double Tap the outer bezel to open and then Double Tap your finger to lock it. HAPPY FINGER TAPPING!

                            Convenient when it works
This was installed on our apartment door before we moved in, so we have no choice about its existence because we can't remove it. However, the choice to stop using it always remains, and the longer we stay here.. the more I consider this. Obviously there are all the advantages of not having to use an actual key to open your door, which probably becomes most convenient when your hands are full of grocery bags, or whatever else that prevents them from being useful in any additional way. But half the time, I will touch the lock and wait for it to open, and it doesn't open. So I touch it again. Usually it opens on the second try, but not always. This is incredibly aggravating because my phone is never more than half a foot away from the lock as it is always in my left pocket. I'm very tall, so distance between the lock and my phone cannot possibly be an issue. At this point, it would be faster for me to physically pull my keys out of my other pocket and unlock the door that way, than it is for me to use this application that is supposed to do it for me. What is the point, then? The batteries have been replaced, the software updates have been installed and are up to date. To me there is nothing more infuriating than standing there like an idiot, waiting for your own door to let you into your residence after touching the lock repeatedly. Burns me right up.
