Asked by Jeff June 14, 2021

In response to TB: the two AC’s I had were in our baby’s bedroom so I am not sure exactly when they would turn off. However, like you it seems very early morning would be when it happens. They would always be off in morning when I would take her out of her crib by 7:00 am. One time the AC turned back on by itself only to turn right back off. Also lowering the thermostat wouldn’t get it started again, though changing modes would. Contacting LG I was told this wasn’t operating correctly. But reading some of these question I do not know if this is correct, Maybe someone from LG can comment? I still need to get an AC for this bedroom and this is one of the few available for her room size.

Can this unit lie on its side when not in use?

Asked by Elizabeth June 14, 2021

You should never lay an a/c unit or humidifier/dehumidifier on its side. Whether it would be able to function properly again, I’m not certain, but I’d feel leery trying.

Do you have to add drain line

Asked by Danny June 13, 2021

You only need to use a drain if you are using it to dehumidify. If you are using as air conditioner no drain line is needed. In the event that it accumulates any water (which it really doesn't) during AC mode, there is a drain plug that you would open to drain onto a shallow pan.

I just got this and so far i am VERY happy. My bedroom stays cool and crisp and i sleep comfortably. The unit is actually quiet in my opinion. My home has central air but the bedroom is usually warm in the summer. This solved my problem. Easy setup too!

Great unit for our 3rd floor loft in a 190 year old house in the often humid Southwest PA which the tiny HVAC vent they retrofitted barely helps with. Unit is quite loud on account of the fan, compressor (when it activates), and being on a wood floor causing vibration. I use it as an office space, others just have to deal with the background noise. Cools wonderfully and some of the remote settings are nice like no lights on the unit. I’m going to find a way to minimize the floor vibration, maybe one of those foam mats. The fan does a commendable job moving the newly cooled air up so it can drop back down which increases effectiveness. Getting the window trim kit in was a bit odd but I figured it out. I found in our application that using a roll of electrical tape under the vent hose does a good job solidifying the kit and keeping it from leaning inward.

The BEST portable A/C on the market!
Have had this unit for 2 summers now. Works excellent. Cools the room nicely. It’s stylish, and not too loud. Filters are simple to remove and clean. Just bought a second unit for the living room.

Plastic Exhaust Fan Destroyed
The exhaust from this thing is exremely hot and the fan they decided to use is plastic. Two days it stopped wirking and I found the blades broke off the (rear) fan. Some were actually melted together. Junk.

I purchased this unit to replace a 10,000 BTU unit that was no longer cooling the air. It was time to buy a new one. The current air conditioner I've had for over 2 months, frequently used all summer long. The instructions that came with the unit were well detailed about applying the insulation strips and the positioning of the exhaust hose. On the 80+ degree days I prefer to start it about 10 AM otherwise with the large area it will warm up to 79 degrees later because it is on the second floor with a sunset facing window. The room and adjacent closet is about 200 sq. ft. if I tried to cool just there it would likely be 15 degrees cooler than outside on a 90+ degree day but not likely 20. I have some curtains close to the unit that will cling onto the air intake without one tieback. On one day where the outside daytime high was 95 degrees the temperature was 79 degrees, it was on since before 8 AM. The connected sq. ft. of rooms with doors open is greater than 1500 sq. ft. I have had the clean filter light come on twice so far, each time the filters did need cleaning, a great feature. When outside the window when the air conditioner is on the exhaust is softer but audible from 30 feet away, air is being effectively exhausted. The 24 hour timer works in the way that you can set a time for when it should shut down by the number of hours from the timer being activated. I have used it for 1 hour or 5 hours before but not longer than that. Product registration was not much more than entering the model number on LG’s website, no password creation required. Once the side foam insulation has the adhesive applied it won't come off cleanly afterward. I had to pay great attention to detail when I was getting that centered on the sides of the window exhaust frame. You will want to have a utility knife handy for cutting the adhesive foam to length for the sides. Getting the exhaust hose onto the threads of the ends was hard. The top filter grill is hard to remove for cleaning, even outward pressure along the top hand hold is what I do. One top corner usually comes loose before the other and the rest is easy after that. When it is on the cool air doesn't really get shared with adjacent rooms, it may be something with the layout of the room. I use this with a box fan close to a door to circulate the cool air with the warmer air. It gets really cool and for whatever reason having it set to 60 is not different from 67, it still feels like 60.

Cools great
I got this to cool down my room and it works great I even get cold at times. The price was good for the quality. I’d recommend buying it even better for a small space but also works in larger spaces.

It doesn't work as specified!
I bought the only unit available at a Houston HD store bc I need a AC unit that my generator can power up after we were hit pretty hard and lost power by Laura. It says it'll cool a room sized at 500 sqft, My room is only 150 sqft, but it can only cool to 78 at days! It only reaches set point < 78 at nights. The condensation flooded my floor first night. I have to put the whole unit inside a 20 gallon bin to collect the condensate! I have to lift the unit out and empty the 20 gallon bin every day, and it is a big pain! Condensation keep flowing out from the dehumidify drainage port even I'm using the Cool mode all the time!

We use this portable AC in a popup tent for when we travel to BMX races. All you need is a gas generator, a canopy pop-up with tent and this AC. Works great and portable.

Not as good as a window ac but more convenient
During a heat wave, all window unit AC sold out everywhere and this was the only option. I always wanted to try one of these but hesitated due to the many reviews which said they were inefficient and/or ineffective. What I really like about this unit is that a small, flat piece of plastic is easy to install in the window and seals it better from mosquitos and bugs than the window unit which leaves gaps. The tradeoff is that this is quite a distraction with its big hose and can be seen in the room ... no way to hide it! Also positioning is key. The vents need to face outward. The unit cooled better than I thought but in no way does the 8,000 BTU accurately describe cooling power. In my smaller bedroom, the room stays cool as long as the unit runs. In my larger living room, it's not at all effective and only lowers the temperature a few degrees. This won't get your bedroom super chilly, like a window unit will. Also disappointing is that though you set the temperature, it doesn't switch off or toggle between fan and AC. It runs full blast the whole time. I do love the fact that there is a timer. One flaw is that the remote and the unit don't seem to synch up. Often, I use the remote and then unit cannot be manually switched. I have to unplug the unit and restart in order to be able to use the manual controls. The remote seems to re-program it. You really shouldn't buy this unless you need to ... if you don't want the hassle to install a window unit, cannot due to the windows or want to move it easier from room to room, this is a good option. If you want to cool a room and can use a window unit, it will get your room cooler, use less energy and be easier to hide. I was very worried about the unit filling with water based on some other reviews but I only run it for an hour or two at a time and knock on wood, it has yet to shut off and need emptying. The minute it does, it's going right back as I have 90 days to return. Overall, it works better than I thought it would so far. It's more pricey than an average AC unit but more convenient. I only hope they sell additional window kits as I'd love to be able to install those in other rooms so I can just detach the hose and wheel it from rook to room without taking the window kit out each time to place in a new window. My electric bill is doubled but at least I can relax in a nice, cool bedroom.
