Q:Will the aluminum turn more easily than the galvanized in low wind conditions?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello, this is Gennifer from Lomanco. We have not tested the difference between the two to determine how they turn compared to one another. Aluminum is much lighter so naturally the aluminum should turn more easily starting up. If you have any additional questions, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-643-5596.

Q:Can you use this without an intake in your attic? I read online that the wind turbines are most useful for those that have no intake ventilation and that the wind turbines can be used as both an intake and an exhaust.

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, Gennifer from Lomanco here. We do recommend using intake for all of our exhaust vents for them to work properly. Our turbines are designed to be used as exhaust only. Proper ventilation consists of 50% intake ventilation (near the lower part of the attic space) and 50% exhaust ventilation (near or at the roof peak) at least 3 feet higher than the intake system. Intake vents allow fresh air in and exhaust vents let heat and moisture out of the attic. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call and speak to Customer Service at 1-800-643-5596.

A:  I live in the southwest where is hot . I installed 2 wind turbines on the roof and have vents on the side of the house to help with ventilation cause the roof gets pretty hot , and seems to work well . Check the houses in your neighborhood to see how they vent their roofs and ask a vell reputed roof contractor. Proper roof ventilation is very important. Hope this helps .

Q:Can this be used to vent out a bathroom fan

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello, Gennifer from Lomanco here. We do not recommend the turbine as a bathroom fan, it is designed to be installed over the attic space to exhaust heat and air from the attic space. Here is a link to the bathroom vent we offer: https://www.lomanco.com/vents/roof-jacks. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call and speak to Customer Service at 1-800-643-5596.

I installed 4 of these on my roof in 1995. Three3 of them still work like new. On the fourth one, the bearings gave out and it wore through the metal on both ends. The wind turbine has a "forever guarantee", so I was going to take it to Home Depot for a replacement. They informed me that, since it was a manufacturers guarantee, I would have to contact them. The manufacturer requires you to ship the defective item to them prepaid before they will replace it. The shipping will cost you almost $10 more than a new turbine, making this guarantee worthless.

We've had this installed for about a month. So far so great. Compare with a Turbine Aire WTI12X 12-in turbine vent that we picked up from Lowes in town. Summer time, Albuquerque. Maybe it was just the heat, but that model from Lowes stopped spinning freely in about a day (nothing against Lowes, they're fine too, it's just the truth). We tried another of the same model that stopped spinning freely also in about a day. We purchased this 12-in Whirlybird online from Home Depot and it installed right on the same flange base (not recommended but a quick test), and has been spinning freely ever since - a very clear improvement. It would be more ideal if could install the flange base that came with this Whirlybird as it is sturdier and would fit better. Anyway, this Whirlybird was a little more expensive but worth it. The aluminum thickness of this product is also greater and overall construction sturdier. Photo shows the old flange base with the new turbine on top.

Easy to figure out the pitch required with the cardboard template! Aluminum base was easy to set flat on the new plywood; the only issue was the instruction's #7 fuzzy photo image of the Set screw - it took a couple of tries...this unit replaced a 20 year old one, am looking forward to many years of service from this new Turbine!

The unit was high quality, but there was not enough wind to turn it. We replaced with a solar fan.

2 thumbs up. Had it a week or so and it's quiet. We only used the turbine part to replace one that squeezed horribly. The holes matched up and 3 screws later we're done. Product was in stock at a fair price. Thanks Home Depot.
