Complete waste of money. I cleaned my cabinet with tsp, sanded, applied a coat of primer and then 3 coats of paint with this hard coat mixed in. I made sure to measure and use the exact amount. After curing for a week I started putting the hardware back on. At one point I slipped and my ring hit the cabinet and made a scratch. It did not make the paint hard at all. The slightest thing makes a scratch. Thankfully, I used actual cabinet paint on my kitchen cabinets and that paint is hard as a rock, but a pain to apply. I thought for my bathroom cabinet that gets little use, this would be good enough. Sadly, it's just not but it's done and now I have to touch it up on a regular basis.

Latex Agent makes amazing products! I found a discarded dresser from the 1960s on the side of the road. It was very beat up but I knew it was solid wood and could be restored to a beautiful piece of furniture. I wanted to redo this piece for my granddaughter but needed to find a way to make Latex paint more durable, especially for the top of the dresser. I spent weeks doing research on the best way to accomplish this. I found both Latex Hard Coat and Latex Oil Bond on the Home Depot website. After more research I learned that these products were highly recommended by "This Old House". That was good enough for me to give them a try. I used Latex Oil Bond for the first coat. This eliminated the need to strip and sand the dresser. Then I used Latex Hard Coat for the next 2 coats of paint. I can't believe how hard the paint dried! I would never attempt a painting project again without these products. They aren't cheap but a little goes a long way. I have enough left for my next 4 or 5 painting projects. I found the drying time to be the same with the additives and didn't notice a change in the color of the paint. I just wish Home Depot would carry these products in their store.

    Underlying Manufacturer
Order Sept. 25 and received Nov. 14th. This was not the fault of HD - this product is drop shipped. I called Latex Agent and keep getting "ships next week." Anyway, too cold to paint now. Thanks for nothing.

      Doesn't harden
i've used a hardener before but not this brand. followed directions, easy to use, let harden a week. didn't harden, easy to scratch off. applied second coat. same issue. the good news is it looks good, just isn't harden.

        I'd say it works
I can't say yet if it made any difference in the durability of the paint but it did spread very nice and hardly no brush marks.

I really don't know at this point how to rate this. It was easy to use with my paint and I put several coats on but it really doesn't look any different than with regular paint & as far as hardness I haven't used it enough to know how it will hold up.
