Will these filter pine needles
Hey Kevin, Thank you so much for the question. While this does filter out much, but it does not process pine needles as well. The pine needles will not go through it. They usually pile up on top and then blow away over time or they may stay on top of the product depending on how many you have around your house. They won't make it to the gutter, but they may stay on top for some time if you have an excess amount.
If i need 5 or 6 feet to finish the job do I have to buy a whole box?

What keeps this from caving in under snow and ice, just the gutter hangers?
Hey Ronald, Thank you so much for the question. Yes, the hangers do help some, but this a fairly rigid PET fiber. When installed it forms a "crown" or rounded top created by tension between your fascia and the gutter. Snow and ice will not deform this or weigh it down. So, yes, the hangers would be a last resort to help, but the natural curve formed during installation will keep it from sagging or sinking as well.

I have currently the plastic flat inserts that look great initially, but once in the sun, buckle and curve and no longer fit in place. The other brands that fit inside substantially appear to have enough 'grip' to stay inserted, but I am not sure about these since they lay flat towards the top. Please advise.

From the looks of it, I'm afraid if there was a heavy rain that the rain water wouldn't seep through fast enough and would end up going over the edge of the gutter, therefore defeating its purpose.
