Q:The specs say rating is general service. The box in the pictures say nothing, but the metal back plate says "spec grade" so is it general service or spec commercial.

The switch is an excellent Product, I used two of them for two inline duct blowers for my wood furnace to direct the heat where needed and I wanted to see what one was on or off at a glance at the switch. If you look at the switch cover you will see a fuse protecting the smaller wire going to the duct heaters. I used one on our master bedroom walk in closet because my wife doesn't know how to shut the light off when she walks out, she can see the switch light to remind her. HOWEVER, LEVINGTON NEEDS TO KNOW THAT WHO EVER DREW THE LINE DIAGRAM IN THE BOX LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED. IT POINTS TO THE BLACK SCREW AND SAYS "COMMON" THEN IT SAYS "HOT" THIS IS CONTRIDICTARY OF EACH OTHER. IN RESIDENTAL WIRING THE WHITE WIRE IS COMMON AND THE BLACK WIRE IS THE HOT WIRE. THE LINE DRAWING SHOULD ELIMINATE THE "COMMON" AND JUST SAY HOT.

A PERFECT SOLUTION
I needed a switch to operate a wall outlet for a towel warmer bar that has no built-in switch (the warmer bar plugs into a wall outlet). To avoid the potential hazard of plugging/unplugging the bar from the outlet (which is located in a wet area) my solution was to wire this switch to the wall outlet, so that the warmer bar could remain plugged into the outlet, and could be operated by the wall switch. The built-in pilot light on the switch also fulfills an important safety concern, by providing a visible cue (see pictures) when the towel bar heater is switched on.
This product was a perfect solution. I am moderately experienced in household wiring, so I found installation to be reasonably straight-forward. For those who are not as experienced, wiring this combination switch might be puzzling, so here’s a few tips and attached pictures (when viewed from the front of the switch):
1. Black (line-in wire – from power source) connects to top right side (black colored) terminal.
2. Black (load wire -- to outlet/appliance/light) connects to top left side (copper colored) terminal.
3. Both white (neutral) wires (line-in wire and load wire) are pigtailed together and connect to bottom left side (silver colored) terminal.
4. Bare copper (ground wires) connect to bottom right side (green colored) terminal.
The sole reason for the silver colored terminal connection is to supply power from the source to the pilot light.
The wiring instructions, printed on the inside of the packaging cover are in a font so small as to be practically useless. However, wiring information is also widely available on the Internet.
I am very pleased with the result, and would recommend this product for similar applications where it is helpful or important to visibly highlight that the switch is in the “on” position.
