Product Details

Today more than ever homes are equipped with important electrical safety devices to help protect people and property. Most prominent are the GFCI Receptacle, which helps protect people from shock or electrocution resulting from ground faults and the recently introduced AFCI Receptacle to help prevent electrical fires caused by dangerous arcing conditions. Leviton combined these 2 technologies to create the new SmartlockPro Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle, offering homeowners the assurance of both shock and fire protection in one smart device. The SmartlockPro AFCI/GFCI offers an effective alternative to a DFCI breaker and features the convenience of localized test and reset. It provides clear visual indication of status making it intuitive for users to assess various conditions such as power availability and GFCI self-test status. The device also clearly distinguishes between a trip caused by a ground fault and a trip caused by an arc fault.
  • SmartlockPro dual function AFCI/GFCI receptacle offers a NEC compliant option for GFCI/AFCI protection in residential kitchen and laundry areas for new construction, modifications/extensions and replacement receptacles
  • Device is ideal as a replacement for ungrounded receptacles, satisfying NEC requirements for both AFCI and GFCI protection
  • Test and reset buttons are readily accessible on the face of the device
  • Trip threshold meets or exceeds UL requirements for tripping time on ground faults and on both series and parallel arcs for optimal safety
  • Patented bridge contact design provides individual sets of contacts for receptacle face and downstream receptacles; no power will be delivered to receptacle face if improperly wired (line-load reversed)
  • Improved immunity to high frequency noise reduces nuisance tripping
  • Superior resistance to electrical surges and over-voltages enhancing reliability
  • Status indicator light provides simple, intuitive feedback on power and protection status as well as indication of line/load reversal for at-a-glance analysis
  • 1-piece T-design trip latch mechanism provides efficient operation
  • Test and reset button colors match device face offering pleasing aesthetic
  • Impact-resistant thermoplastic cover and body for durability
  • Expanded wiring options with nine back-wire holes (two for each line and load connection plus one for ground with an internal clamp) for easy installation
  • Silver alloy contacts
  • Compatible with all Decora devices and wall plates for multi-gang installation option; available in select popular colors

A:  Since I'm not an expert and don't understand it deeply, I dare not say yes. (1) The instruction sheet in the box does not cover your configuration, which I think is split phase multiwire shared neutral circuits. (2) A naive connection might not work because GFCI works by making sure the current from hot = the current to neutral, so if it detects current on neutral coming from hot number 2, it'll instantly trip. Or you'll overload the neutral. (3) If it were a classic receptacle, there are metal tab / bridges that you can break off to basically make two separate receptacles on two separate circuits. But the pictures and diagrams don't show such bridges, and I don't remember them being there, so that's out too. (4) I've seen explanations of ways to do it, but I don't want to risk getting you hurt (and me sued) by giving hints when I don't understand it deeply. I'd call a good electrician to figure out how to do it, or to install AFGI/GFCI breakers properly.

A:  I just saw the FAQ linked to from the Home Depot page. It has the question "Can the same neutral wire be used for the installation of more than one Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle?" Its answer is "While Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacles can work with a shared neutral on the line side, please refer to specific code requirements regarding acceptable methods for feeding an AFCI/GFCI receptacle. If you are unfamiliar with the function of a neutral wire, contact an electrician." So there you are.

The switch is what is says and at a fair price. I would have given it 5 stars but the green illuminated light is a bit too bright, I would say bordering on obnoxiously so given its intended purpose. I have 3 of them in my kitchen, and let's just say I have no need for night lights in or around the kitchen.

The new code updates require that outlets in kitchen and laundry rooms are AFCI/GFCI. Not every state has adopted this requirement yet. When replacing the a non-GFCI outlet in my laundry room, I went ahead and opted for this, as opposed to a GFCI plug. I have not had issues with it kicking.

They arrived in 3 days! They look good. They meet code for kitchens. Were easy to install. I just wish the Home Depot stores would carry them in stock.
