There is no ground on this.... how do you ground the fixture?
Asked by: Doc
BX Cable (metal) and wiring become "crimped" into its respective metal electrical box and that is all the grounding necessary, while modern NM (plastic coated sheathing) just slips into the back of the plastic electrical box and not connected since the lampholder is ceramic. Other lampholders are plastic which also serve the same purpose as not needing its own ground since there isn't any exposed metal. However, if you use a metal electric box with a modern NM wire and if that box is exposed or not then that line needs to be grounded in the box and not onto the lampholder. With any electric work (and without a doubt in older homes with some modern updates which have mixing of BX, NM, and both kinds of electric boxes) please obtain the services of a professional electrician with license and insurance.

Do you need an electrical box to mount this to?

I removed an old 48 in fluorescent light fixture which now just leaves a hole with the two wires coming out.
Asked by: Dave
Yes it is designed to mount onto an electric box. I used them in a horse shelter with the metal junction box. These are very nice units. It would not be code but you should screw the outlet into the ceiling. Into something solid. Not the best practice and not really a good idea

Can these be used in a closet?

I agree with Gram's comments. When I bought my current home in the 90s, the home inspector "dinged" the house because the lights in the closets weren't covered. They are still not covered, but I've replaced the hot incandescent lights with cooler LED lights.

Why are there 4 screws, 2 brass and 2 silver? Is the wire supposed to go around 2 screws or just one? If one, which one?
Asked by: Robaby
Honestly my 1st response is you probably shouldn't be doing your own wiring. 2nd, it's to daisy chain your lights in parallel.
