There is no ground on this.... how do you ground the fixture?
Asked by: Doc
The lampholder fixture is made of a ceramic material that does not conduct electricity and therefore grounding cannot serve any purpose.

Do you need an electrical box to mount this to?

I removed an old 48 in fluorescent light fixture which now just leaves a hole with the two wires coming out.
Asked by: Dave
Yes it is designed to mount onto an electric box. I used them in a horse shelter with the metal junction box. These are very nice units. It would not be code but you should screw the outlet into the ceiling. Into something solid. Not the best practice and not really a good idea

Can these be used in a closet?
Asked by: MorningGlory
I agree with Gram's comments. When I bought my current home in the 90s, the home inspector "dinged" the house because the lights in the closets weren't covered. They are still not covered, but I've replaced the hot incandescent lights with cooler LED lights.

The fixture is rated at 600 watts maximum. It can be used with an edison base lamp with wattage up to 600 watts.

It is easy to install, also allows me to put a bright fluorescent in it; I use one of the circular fluorescents, to light up a large space. The basement is unfinished, so this works great. It is not fancy, so I gave it a"good" for appearance. It is also very inexpensive and great for a cellar or closet light. The body of it is ceramic or porcelain. I have six of these in my basement, and over 34 years have only replaced one before; this is the second that needed to be replaced. Really, the wire may have just been loose, but after 34 years, I just went ahead and replaced it thinking it is probably due. I expect this fixture to last just as long... which is great for a very modest price. It is absolutely NOT the most attractive light in my house, but as I said, for a closet or unfinished basement, it is great, fitting. I would have no reservation in buying another one of these lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I installed a gang 20 cu. in. new ceiling box with captive nails to one of the roof rafters in the attic to secure this 600-Watt 250-Volt Outlet Box Lampholder in white glassed porcelain and extended the existinnnng single light circuit. This is the correct answer to lighting the dark area of the top of the folding stairs leading to the attic. I used a 100 watt equivalent fluorescent bulb and it supplies enough light to reach the lampholder that is already in the attic. This arrangement of the new light fixture insures a safe transit through the attic to the havac unit and duct work that a service person can safety walk to and work on the havac unit. I now wish that i would have mover the on/off switch closer to the stairs while i was wiring this fixture. Now that i have adequate lighting in the attic I feel better about having havac technicians working on my havac unit. I would highly recommend the use of this 600-Watt 250-Volt Outlet Box Lampholder in white glassed porcelain to insure safe and efficient lighting in a garage, utility spaces, attics and other spaces that are under illuminated.

This is the classic porcelain light bulb fixture that has been used for decades. They're obviously not for the main living areas of your home, but I use them for cheap and easy light fixtures in the crawlspace or garage. All you need is a standard round box to mount them to. I would not recommend using expensive or CFL bulbs in these, since it's fairly easy to accidentally run into the bulb and break it. They have two screws on each wiring terminal so it's easy to connect them in the middle or at the end of a wiring run. There is a plastic version as well - the plastic version is probably more durable. With the porcelain version, be sure not to screw it in too tightly or you may crack it.

This is a good looking and functional product. however, if you are not very careful about how you tighten the screws that hold it in the box, Particularly if it is a metal box you will break it. seriously be VERY careful about how you install this item.
