can this be used on a circuit that is getting power feed from the lights down to the switch?
      ByDec 25, 2020
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

If the switch junction box has a neutral wire in it, then the Leviton switch will work. If the switch junction box just has the power wire from the light and the light wire, it will not work. The Leviton switch has to have both power and neutral connected to it.

I tossed the box, but I'm pretty sure it said designed and engineered in the usa. I believe manufactured in Mexico. The instructions were in Spanish and the manufacturing address on the book was in NJ.

Will two of these fit into a two-gang box? If yes, will any Leviton plate work (my understanding is that the box comes with single gang faceplates).

          Answer This Question

They will fit but it is tight. I found older metal work boxes were not deep enough in my installation. Today's boxes work pretty well. An yes any decora switch plates can be used with these switches.

          Cost-effective WiFi switches
Selected Leviton switch as it would work over an existing WiFi network without additional bridges or range issues. Overall cost was less than competitors. Turn off power at the breaker box first. Installation ease depends on current switch wiring (single or multiple switches sharing electrical junction box) and identifying hot/common/load/neutral leads. If you aren't comfortable working inside a junction box, call an electrician. Setup via the Leviton app is unfamiliar at first but works. Will eventually install more of these switches.

            Exactly what I needed
I was looking for a smart switch to control exterior lights and this worked perfectly. I replaced a single gang with this switch. Wiring was very easy per the instructions (note you need a white common line and the electronics in the switch make it a little bit deeper than a standard single pole). Enabling the skills to work with Alexa and Google was also very simple. I have it hooked up to both and the voice control works perfectly. There is an indicator light on the front that you can set to either tell you if the lights are on or as a locator if the lights are off. The app gives you a lot of scheduling flexibility. I have it set to turn on 30 minutes before sunset and off at 1 AM. It takes the worry out of returning home when it is dark. The sunset time automatically adjusts based on your location.

There are many companies making smart switches. Some are new technology companies that are expanding into lighting. This one is made by a lighting company that is expanding into new technology. Because of that it is, at its core, a well made switch. It is a "rocker" model so it goes back to center once you let go. This is nice if you have multiple switches for the same light (make sure you get the correct model of secondary switch to pair with this one!). Up is always on and down is always off even if the light was turned on on another switch. They do not get out of sync with each other. The look is clean. The mechanism feels sturdy and the clicking noise it makes is not bad. The only reason you would know it is a smart switch from looking at it is a green LED near the bottom that goes on when the light is off (supposedly to help you find the light in the dark... it also blinks if the switch needs to be set up). I don't love having logos all over everything, but the Leviton logo is small and not that distracting. So the switch itself is really good. What about the technology? The stand alone Leviton app works fine. I don't love having another app for my lights on top of other smart home apps, but it might be better that way since it feels like this stuff is shifting very quickly. Part of the reason that I went with this model is that it works with Nest, but Google recently bought Nest and is integrating Nest into Google home and that is changing how all the Nest devices integrate with other devices. This also works with Google home (though not Apple home?) It looks like one of the newest Leviton models actually has Google Alexa built in, so it looks like they are doubling down on that partnership. It is hard to know how all that will look like in five years with such a quickly changing field... so it is good to have the stand alone app to fall back on. Mostly I use the app to schedule a timer for out outside lights and then forget it. I really like that you can set the lights to turn on at dusk (or just before or after) and it will change what time that is based on where your home is and the time of year. They can then be set to turn off either at a certain time or up to two hours after dark (this is a minor flaw... what if I want to set the light to turn off four hours after dark?... It is not a deal breaker. You can just set a time... say 11PM... but it seems a minor thing for them to extend the dawn/dusk timer to four or eight hours. Perhaps in a future version?) If you add a second switch for the same light, again make sure to get the correct model to sync with this one, and also know that the wiring of this is more complicated than a standard switch. It took our electrician much longer to get this setup wired up than other dumb switches. One more thing... I like that system does not require a hub to control the smart lighting unlike other smart lighting systems. The switch connects to your wifi network and sends/receives its signals over that and that means that adding a couple of switches does not feel like a big deal or buying into a whole system. That does mean you need a solid wifi signal at home. We have a very fast stable internet service and good wifi routers in this house (unlike our last home) so the switches have worked perfectly since we installed them almost a year ago, but looking at other reviews... if your internet service or wifi signal is intermittent that may mess with these switches.

I have had the switch installed over 4 months now, I love that I don't ever have to remember to turn it off in the morning. The multiple schedules work great when going on vacation to randomly turn lights on and off throughout the week creating a occupied home.

I've owned this product for about 2 months now. This switch works great, and is fairly easy to install with mild electrical knowledge. The "in wall" portion is a bit large, and had a challenge installing it in my 3 gang box, but it would up working out. The switch works just as it should and I haven't had any issues with connectivity or functionality, (unlike many other smart home features I've installed). I have the switch set for lights on from dusk to dawn in the Leviton app, with the plenty of other options if I choose to change it up. My only complaint would be the steep price, but its worth it when compared to other cheap brands that don't have all the kinks worked out like Leviton does.

I purchased two of these (plus several other accompanying Leviton Wi-Fi switches) to be able to program all of the outside lights on my home. They come on at dusk and turn off at 10 pm. These are excellent products which allowed me to handle the lights on 6 different circuits, some of which were 3-way, one 4-way, and the others single-pole. Everything worked perfectly and 11 months later they continue to operate without any failures. The programming was very simple and the installation instructions were fairly easy to follow. (I have had a small amount of amateur experience replacing standard single-pole light switches but nothing with Wi-Fi or 3-way or 4-way switches.) FINALLY, I can now forget about going to 6 different switches throughout my home to turn on and off the outside lights!!! The main aspect of this project that I wasn't experienced with was determining which 3-way or 4-way switch was the "main" and which was the "matching remote" unit. However with a multi-meter I was able to easily determine which was which. All in all, I would purchase these again if I had a need for more.

I purchased 6 of these for my new Big Garage after buying two other WiFi Light Switches. I compared the Leviton to Belkin and TP-Link. The Leviton construction seemed to be of higher quality and the iPhone APP was much easier to setup, understand, and control. The Amazon Alexa control is the sweet spot on the Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch. I have a Amazon Alexa Speaker by the door and I just say "Alexa, Garage On" and all my Garage Lights turn on. I also have them programmed to turn off automatically at 10PM every day. This way I never forget to turn them off. I also have an Amazon "Button" that is also programmed to turn all Garage Lights On or Off by just pressing the battery powered big button. If you use Alexa for home control, you will love this switch.
