Q:Can i run a contractor frade extension cord off of the receptacle? Is it safe to plug a space heater into receptacle? Thank you
by|Jan 25, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Most space heaters require a 20amp breaker, most light circuits are 15 amp. I would try to find an outlet on a 20amp circuit. Also, the plug on this light is fairly thin and I would not leave anything heavy duty plugged in for a long time.

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, they have Hot, Neutral, and Ground terminals for the socket. Cut your wire jacket short so you do not cross any of the wires with other terminals, as it is all close together on the back.

Outlet stays on all the time
This was easy enough to install (replaced a broken lamp holder without the outlet) and seems to be good quality. Unfortunately, the outlet stays powered on all the time. My basement has a plug-in hanging fluorescent light which I wanted to turn on/off using the pull chain at the same time as this light. That is NOT possible, the outlet is on permanently which makes it useless for a second light.

          Worked great
Needed an outlet option to install overhead shop light fixtures in my garage. This combination light/outlet worked great. The knockouts were fast and complete. Garage light install looks professional.

            Works, but design is hazardous
I bought and installed this item today. I observed some serious design deficiencies that made me hesitate to install it, but I decided that I can be mindful of the issues when using it. The first issue as some others have pointed out is how close the ground terminal is to the neutral terminal. If you aren't careful with your wire routing as you mount the fixture to the box, you could easily join the ground and neutral together, which is hazardous and problematic when done anywhere except the service panel. The other issue is that the receptacle construction is so flimsy that plugging something into it is difficult (have to wiggle it just right to line up with the terminals) and the act of plugging in causes the terminals to flex and reposition. It is entirely possible, and maybe even likely, that this will eventually cause a short from live to neutral, live to ground, or neutral to ground at some point if the receptacle is used frequently. However, if you are like me and intend to plug something in which is going to remain plugged in for a long time, this risk is low. This design needs serious re-evaluation. I'm honestly surprised this thing passed any type of certification and it is alarmingly sloppy for being a brand name product. Do better Leviton, this stuff can kill people.

              Fragile
Entire fixture basically shatters when attempting to remove the knockouts using the method in the instructions (screwdriver and small hammer). I even tried more softly on the second hole. Why are the holes knocked out for the standard box screw spacing. Worthless.

I needed to get a fixture that had an outlet for the Christmas lights I wanted to hang. This allowed me to have a porch light on AND plug in the decorative lights too.

I recently got a roommate for my three bed two bath home. The second bath is small and didn't have an outlet. We both get ready for work around the same time and have hair dryers and stuff that needs to be plugged in. I switched the light fixture in the second bath with this. This is only a temporary fix but it was cheap so I'm not complaining.

Junk. I bought a few of these to replace the old ones in my garage and in the attic. The inner holes are not punched out, and it doesn't matter how gently you try to punch them out, it cracks all the other porcelain. Then when tightening, no matter how gently you snug them up, it also cracks the porcelain. Find a different brand.

Perfect solution for closet and garage
I bought two of these lights. One for a dark closet and another to replace a similar light in the garage that did not have a plug. I installed one in a closet that had no light at all. I fished and tied the light into the power line to the door bell located in the closet. I ran the light switch cord across the top of the closet and then down the opposite wall using a couple of eye hooks and finished it off with a baseball pull chain. I used a couple of rubber washers and inserted them into the eye hooks to keep the sound of the metal pull chain from making so much noise. In all it works great and the closet finally has a light. The pull chain works great but I just have to remember not to try and flipp for a swich and instead pull the chain. In the garage the plug on the light allowed me to run some (Southwire 50 ft. 14-2 Romex White NM-B with Gauge) around the ceiling and walls so I could install a (Legrand 4 USB/3-Outlet Charging Station) over my work bench. I covered the wiring from the Ceiling light with (Wiremold/Legrand 12 ft. Cordmate II Kit, White) for a nice look. The molding has adhesive on the back but I used (Loctite PL Premium 10 fl. oz. Polyurethane Construction Adhesive) to make sure it stayed in place. Pics included

Leviton Lamp Holder with Pull Chain and Outlet
I needed to replace an old and bulky florescent light fixture in my mom's basement storage room. This was a perfect replacement. Not only is it much smaller and more practical than that old fixture, it provides the added bonus of an electrical outlet, which the room previously lacked. If you don't need a stylish fixture, but a basic lamp with an outlet at a low cost, I recommend this one.
