Questions & Answers

Does the product scratch easily. What is likely to cause scratches and what isn't? What can be used to conceal scratch

Asked by: Dave
We've had it down for less than a month and have some significant scratches. We have felt pads on all of our furniture and don't wear shoes in the house. I'm shocked how quickly it has scratched.

Should this flooring be silicone around shower to prevent water leaking under and the baseboards also in bathroom?
Asked by: Bud
I would. Even though 100% waterproof, everything can mold.

Can this product be installed in kitchen around and under a gas range? Currently have one piece vinyl flooring under the range without any problem.
Asked by: Flash
We have installed this laminate in kitchens and under most appliances. We would probably not install this under any range if at all possible. The heat from the oven may not be good for the laminate surface. What we would do is extend the laminate a few inches under the edge of the range for appearances only. While vinyl flooring is typically thin and one piece, the laminate is a floating floor that is interconnected. We would expect that heat from the range may cause the laminate to expand/buckle and it may separate from the heat.

Am I reading the size correctly? Are each of these 4 inches by 4 inches small? The pictures look like they are long plan

Asked by: Bella
You are viewing the "Sample" product which is 4x4. To get the long planks and order the full size product, you have to click on the item that is not the sample.

Essential Oak 7.1 in. x 47.6 in. Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (18.73 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 662.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shadow Hickory Vinyl Plank We are loving our floor! We needed waterproof with our small children who leave spills and don’t tell. We did about 1200 sq feet in our living areas and bathrooms. I am so happy with the final result. It took us about 2 1/2 weeks, sometimes working through the day but mostly working at night because of jobs. We also removed our baseboards carefully and were able to reinstall them, it looks much nicer than a quarter round, but do what you gotta do. You start in a top right corner of a room, and work your way down and left. If you have to ‘backfill’(go up or right), it is harder, but possible, and most likely inevitable unless your house is a perfect box. Watch a few YouTube videos. We mainly just had to backfill around our kitchen island. We also used a transition piece between our two living areas to avoid having to backfill so much. We shoved the stuff pretty much all the way against the wall under the baseboards. There is only one spot that I think we got it too tight and it now sounds a bit hollow when we walk on it, so try not to get it too snug. Most homes have about an inch or two under your baseboards before you touch the inner wall. I definitely recommend a chop saw...yes you can score it and snap it, but we didn’t always get clean breaks, especially with the padded underpayment. The chop saw was much better. And we used a table saw when we needed to cut it lengthwise, I don’t know any other way you could do it lengthwise without a saw, but google it I guess if you don’t have access to a saw. It does take some practice in learning how to use the mallet and pull bar to not damage the planks(mainly the attached padding) My husband damaged the first two, then learned you have to hook only the plank with the bar, not the attached padding when you hammer. We got a few damaged pieces, but we were able to utilize them one way or another on the undamaged ends or sides. Be smart with your scraps! You can use them. Overall, would I do it again? Yes, but I also love ‘wood look tile.’ In comparing vinyl planks to ‘wood look tile’ which is also waterproof, wood-look-tile looks much more like real wood because you can actually see a separation in the planks. This stuff snaps so well together and needs to be tight, but it’s hard to see definition in each individual plank(it doesn’t necessarily look like a sheet of vinyl either). Maybe different colors show differently, but we liked the darker colors and richness of ‘shadow hickory,’ and this type of flooring is something we could do ourselves, whereas I don’t trust us laying tile evenly. Also this stuff is actually a full length plank, whereas affordable wood look tile is usually only 2ft. I am afraid that one day we might scrape this, whereas tile should be more durable with furniture running across it. That being said, we’ve had it for 6 months so far, and it’s holding up perfectly. I have 3 young kids 3-6yo...they have dropped things, run and crashed remote control cars over it, thrown hot wheels and pushed toys along the floor, and left standing water for periods of time, and we have no visible wear. I bought felt padding for all of our furniture feet, and I have had to replace those little circles on a few pieces of furniture, but that’s easy, and much better than risking scraping the floor. So, if you have the money to pay someone to install a wood look tile, go for it. If you want to save some money and DIY, this stuff is great and seems to be lasting well. . We get tons of compliments, and it has made our house look much larger and cleaner than the carpet did. I just sweep and occasionally use a mop. We are loving it!

It saddens me to write this review because I wanted to love this flooring so much. It looks beautiful and it installs easily; however, if you have children or pets or live as a normal person, this flooring is not for you. I am finding scratches almost on a weekly basis and we are not aggressive with our flooring. Before the installers were even done, I found a few scratches from their soft plastic knee pads. At that moment I knew we were in trouble. If you want to be extra cautious with your flooring, then get it. If not, this isn't the flooring for you. To make matters even worse, the scratch layer is white. So all scratches show up white on a dark floor so its not like you can't notice them. Save yourself a lot of money and go with something more durable like laminate. We had laminate prior to our LVP and it was extremely difficult to scratch compared to this vinyl. Unfortunately, I regret this purchase.

The product is engineered so well that all you need to do is make sure that your tongues and grooves are clean and clear. There is occasional flash (or bumps of vinyl) in the tongue that you just need to cut/ clear out with a utility knife. After the 1st couple rows, make sure you are running straight, and you are good to go. I highly recommend using power tools to cut the product. It's a bear to cut with a utility knife. A sliding miter saw made quick and accurate work on length cuts. Just put it in upside down (face side down) and backwards. Measure from the tongue side of the plank for your end cuts. Use the Cut off piece for your next row starter. Use a jig, circular or oscillating saw for the cutouts around doors and any lengthwise cuts. You'll be happier. Just an FYI, when cutting, be safe. The "sawdust" is little pieces of vinyl and foam backer. We used 1/2 x 3/4 base molding, we stained to match, to cover the edges around the parimeter and standard "pewter" color transition pieces for doorways. Less expensive than the "matching" trim pieces and just as good in my opinion. There is an estimator for the number of boxes you need on the box. For our size room it recommended like 11 boxes. They use an estimate of 10% scrap plus mistakes. We used 9 boxes with 4 planks left over. A word of caution. Be careful when handling to boxes and product. Don't drop it on edges or corners. Once it's in it's solid, but until then, be gentle with your handling.
