Easy to layout
The grid pattern on the underlayment makes it very easy to lay out areas with many angles. It cuts extremely cleanly and easily with a sharp blade. Overall, the installation was easy. Taping of the seams and walls, and flooring where needed was very easy and gripped nicely to the surface of the underlayment. Once the underlayment was in place, it would sound crackly to walk on and I was very nervous about the sound transferring to the floor. This did not happen. Overall, it is much easier to lay out on a complex floor. It is incredibly easy for anyone to install. I personally prefer underlayment in a roll, however this underlayment has an installation ease factor which is very appealing.

Lifeproof 100 sq. ft. 3.9 ft. x 25.7 ft. x 0.059 in. Premium Universal Underlayment This was the first time using this product and I can safely say we'll be using it again for our other laminate flooring projects. This was incredibly easy to use! We purchased this underlayment for use on the second floor of our home. It's very easy to work with. The grid pattern makes light work of accurate cuts. We were able to cut and install it in a 16 x22 room in less than an hour with no complications. There was no tearing on the surface. The firmness and noise reduction are excellent. We will purchase this in the future for all of our underlayment needs. I highly recommend this product.

Easy to work with!
I am using this underlayment in a basement living room in which I will be installing engineered wood floors. The floor is concrete so I needed something that was both an insulator from the cold concrete and had moisture protection. This underlayment was perfect for what I was looking for. This "fan fold" underlayment covers a huge area (100sq ft) and is 3.9ft x 25.7ft out of the box. You simply tape the underlayment together at the seems to keep it in place. The printed grid on the underlayment makes it super easy to trim with a utility knife! The thickness of this underlayment is 1.5mm. I will use this excellent underlayment throughout my entire basement as I renovate each room! Can be used with all laminate, engineered hardwood and engineered bamboo flooring and has a lifetime warranty.

Excellent underlayment
This is just the best underlayment ever! Made in Georgia, USA from high density XPS foam, covering 100 sq.ft. and 1.5 mm thick, this adds so much quality to floating floor installation. The sound deadening is just superb, mostly due to the extreme tensile strength of the material, the closed cell structure and how it subdues all vibrations. Installed under a laminate flooring, this makes the perfect combination in eliminating that hollow sound you get with other underlayment types. You can install it safely over a radiant heat system, although you have to keep in mind that it has an R-value of 6.6 per sq. inch. The underlayment comes at 3.9 x 25.7 feet x 0.059 inch thick and is not supposed to overlap. Installation instruction states that you need to tape off the edges and connect gaps between panels. Although I have not seen the tape from this manufacturer, I used a regular paper tape and it did the job. Even though the underlayment is not be installed in multiple layers, only one will suffice in providing great sound insulation by not only dampening small vibrations, but also being able to hold a contour between the subfloor and floor that will distribute weight evenly and eliminate most movement between panels that creates this clicking noise on installations with sub-par underlayment. This is achieved by reaching a compression of 1/3 of the thickness, up to 0.5mm at 65 psi. It will take any small imperfections and provide a nice and even, non-stick surface for the laminate flooring. Using laminate with underlayment attached to the panels is also an option and it will only double the soundproofing effect. At $0.60 per sq. ft. it is not the cheapest underlayment, but it is worth every penny because the quality is so much higher compared to other types of underlayment, that is it really an investment worth spending your money on. The underlayment is stated to provide moisture barrier at a rate of less than 0.21 pounds per 24 hrs at 1,000 sq ft, but also has 5 pinholes per sq. sm. to provide some ventilation. I wouldn't use this for installation over a no-subfloor concrete slab in a high water table area due to the potential of locking moisture and propensity to mold growth. Installing it over a subfloor is the way to go, it makes an excellent layer that addresses thermal insulation, most importantly sound and vibration dampening as well as support to take care of individual imperfections on the subfloor which adds longevity to the flooring as well. Installation takes just a utility knife along the cutting grid, there are no VOC or odor from it and flammability resistance is just great. When heated up above 130F it has a tendency to cling to the heating element and smolder to a rigid crisp with a distinctly noticeable odor. I think that makes it very safe to use with radiant heating. It is a great underlayment that would last a long time and is designed to serve more than one floor installation over it.

Easy to use
Have used this product in the past with great results. It’s light weight and very simple to install. The foam helps provide a slight amount of forgiveness in the surface imperfections as well as eliminates some sound transfer. The accordion folding does take a minute to lay flat. Also taping the edges helps as well and is a vapor barrier from why I have read on the product.

Lifeproof Is Definitely a Premium Underlayment
Lifeproof is an excellent quality underlayment and provides a moisture barrier, sound reduction and thermal insulation. I like the fanfold style that is easy to unfold and put in place and the gridded lines make it easy to make a straight cut. It's definitley the best underlayment I've used with laminate flooring. The clearly marked line make it east to lay out and cut to fit.

Lightweight & Easy to use
I think this is now the 9th different underlayment I've used (well, maybe still just the 8th, sa it appears identical in every way to a differently-branded extruded polystyrene fan-fold underlyment). I won't declare a "best" out of the different kinds, but I will say this is excellent for the right applications. The flat folded format is much easier to work with than rolls, and the 1/2" grid on the back makes cutting to size a precision step instead of just a rough guess. Unlike rolls of underlayment, it's simple to put in place without having someone stand on one end (or, worse, stacking heavy objects to keep one end from moving while you roll it out). For my on-slab installation under LifeProof vinyl plank flooring, this product is the best (actually, it's the only underlayment that will not void the flooring's warranty). For installation under a composite floor on a 2nd floor, there are quieter underlayments out there.

This underlayment for using on laminate floors is the best product we have used for a flooring job in our spare room. This stays in place better than the roll underlay. The fanfold design allows you to lay the whole length or width of a floor. Once measured, this cuts easier than the spongy roll underlay. The grid lines make it so much easier to cut, and help line up your flooring panels. The underlayment has a moisture barrier that protects the floor from moisture and helps the laminate to have a softer quieter sound and feel. I was quite surprised to see the 100sq.ft. came in such a small box. Would highly recommend this product for your next floor install.

Our downstairs bedroom, bathroom and hallway are in a weird raised foundation area of the house so we got this to help deaden the sound a little. Not entirely sure how well it works but I'm sure it does something. For the dining room, that's on slab and the parents always say it's a little cold. Although vinyl isn't as cold as tile, lifeproof claims it helps with making the floor warmer. It has an R value of 6.6 per sq in, which isnt that high, but it is something. The typical R value required for new construction in my area is R-13 for walls, and R-30 for ceilings to give you a perspective. Again, not too sure if it does much but it's not a bad insurance. Do understand that it does add about 60 cents per sq foot to the cost of your flooring. It is very thin so don't expect it to help with leveling anything. You'll need a self leveler or something if it's major. A cheaper alternative if you only want to use it as a moisture barrier is get a 6mil poly plastic for a few cents per sq feet, just know where to look. Pro: Very easy to cut R value= 6.6/sq inch Made in USA Sound rating: Up to IIC 72; STC66, Delta IIC26 Con: Expensive

This floating-floor underlayment is unlike any I have used before. Instead of rolling out a heavy roll, this is an extremely lightweight material that is accordion-folded right in the box. The other nice feature of this underlayment is that the marked layout grid is really helpful for ensuring straight cuts with household scissors. You will need to purchase underlayment tape in order to connect the pieces together. As I am not concerned with noise-dampening for this particular installation, this is great for my usage. However, the material is quite thin so I cannot say how well it would work for noise-dampening on a second-floor install.
