Cast Iron Rocks
This is the third member of my cast iron collection of cookware. Expectations were high...and this dutch oven did not disappoint ! This pre-seasoned (baked-in coating of oil..for those new to cast iron..) dutch oven, with loop handles and a self-basting lid (that's what those little nubs are for...to direct the condensate back down onto the item being cooked) met all expectations. Even the addition of lemon juice to the chicken jus/veggie mixture did not seem to affect the pre-seasoned coating. Clean up was a breeze, after cooking a whole chicken and vegetable mixture. The literature packed with the pot notes that the manufacturer has been around for over 100 years...I would guess that most of their products that have been properly cared for are still around..this is a well made item. Just make sure you have a supply of pot holders and trivets... cast iron holds its heat. One benefit of the slow cooking method used with a dutch over is the tenderness and moistness of the meat being cooked.

No Cast Iron Stomach needed!!!
I am a BBQ, Smoker, Griller, Blackstone griddle and Pizza Oven, and Pellet grill owner. But I also cook on a lot of Cast Iron. I have personal cookie sizes, three pan and a griddle in two types, but I never had a Cast Iron Dutch Oven until now. It is used to cook a different way. Lodge has been around a longtime, and although there processes has changed over the years, the products are the same. I bought a 9 inch pan at a garage sale, all rusty and disgusting. My wife thought I was crazy, but with a lot of elbow grease, quart corn oil and three cups of Kosher salt on the stove and oven, now it is her go to pot for baked brie. This is the first time I used it, and although there may be a learning curve, don't even think about it. It worked great. It is easy to clean, just wait until it is room temperature, use a non soaped scouring pad and scrub, spray with cooking oil and massage into pot and put it away. That's it. It is heavy, but that's the way it works. Look at my dinner of pulled pork and drool. Recipe: One boneless Pork Butt 6 ounces of Mojo Criollo salt and pepper to taste. Cook in Dutch Oven for 6 hours on low after it comes to a boil Pull and eat, Mmmmmmmm
