Q:Will it work on induction cooktop?
by|Oct 15, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Great question. Cast iron cookware has such a strong magnetic force that the cookware does not have to sit flat to work. For the cookware to reach optimum performance, your stove needs to have a bridge since power-sharing can cause the cookware to have hotspots and heat unevenly. You can check the owners manual or contact the manufacturer of your range to find out if your induction cooktop has a bridge or not.

Q:Can it be used on a charcoal grill?

    Answer This Question

A:  Should, it is cast iron. Most grates on grills are cast iron or stainless steel. I use mine on a samsung gas cooktop in the kitchen over 2 burners, great for pancakes. Considerably less expensive than what samsung sells and basicly the same size.

A:  Yes, but be sure to clean and preseason both sides. I love it.

A:  Lodge Cast Iron works on a kitchen cooktop, oven, grill, and open flame.

Excellent product, easy to clean and use. I use it to make pancakes, cook sausage, burgers and I even threw on some asparagus, veggies, to blacken and they turned out great. No more pre heating the oven when I can use my Black Cast Iron Reversible Stovetop Griddle by Lodge which I've had for a little over 4 months. Lodge has been around for quite some time (since 1896 when Blacklock Foundry began which burnt in 1910 and reborn, Lodge Cast Iron. lodgecastiron.com quote) and a name you can trust!!

                Rusty Edges
Maybe just a bad luck but mine came with rusty handles around the edges, that was painted over. Otherwise seems like a sturdy and great product.

Great product. Preseasoned cast iron that doesn't disappoint. Used it the first day it arrived to cook fish for tacos and wondered why I hadn't had one before. Great weight to stay in place on top of burners as your flip food, love that I can use metal utensil and easy clean up after it cools.

Great Cooking Tool - Substantial Weight and Build
I am a huge fan of Cast Iron pans and have owned a Skillet from this brand for over a decade - and the cast iron skillet only does get better with age with this brand. I am excited to add this grill/griddle to the kitchen and grill because I see a lot of uses for breakfast and grilling veggies on the cook top. This griddle is heavy and there are integrated handles but they are pretty small so I had to use caution during handling it because it felt like it could slip from my fingers onto the floor if I wasn't careful, which could cause damage since this thing grill has some weight to it. The food that I cooked on it was too greasy and was in need to be drained- the skillet I own is better suited for that. The meat turned out great anyway and I love this grill/griddle and know it will last a very long time. I like the LODGE name embossed into the griddle and it is deep enough to handle grease and moisture from foods, even the bacon I tried to cook on it. Cleanup was easy by wiping the grease with a paper towel then washing with saop and sponge then drying then seasoning both sides with a little oil. I LOVE that it came pre-seasoned and was ready to go after a soapy sponge wash. I like it a lot but want to have a detachable handle with it so I can pick it off the burners while its still hot.

                    Great for Pancakes, Burgers, etc
This is a great griddle. It's the real deal of cast iron--super solid and heavy! But that's great because it means it is capable of getting nice and hot and retaining that heat. I also have an electric griddle which is handy, but this one can't be beat for getting a nice sear on things, it can definitely get hotter. The design is nice, there's a channel so fat will drain off into a reservoir along the side. I love that you can use either side for the flat top or grill lines. I have a stovetop with a bridge between two burners so this is a cinch to use and heat evenly. I love that this can also be used on a grill or over a campfire. I am treating mine with care so that it lasts for years--no soap on it, nothing too abrasive and I recondition it with cooking oil between uses. Sounds tedious but really only cakes a couple minutes to do and well worth it. Nothing sticks and nothing like a glossy and well-cared for cast iron cooking surface!

                    Griddle Power.
I've always had a problem with seasoning cast iron cookware. Even when I follow the directions to season them, it never seems to turn out right. This Lodge Cast Iron Griddle was already seasoned at the factory. What a great idea. Before I used it, for the first time, I followed their directions, "hand wash, dry, & rub with cooking oil". After that, I slowly let the griddle warm up, on my gas range, before cooking pancakes. Just before I poured the batter on the griddle, I rubbed butter on the griddle. The pancakes did not stick to the griddle. They cooked perfectly. Now, each time I use this griddle I hand wash, dry & rub with cooking oil, before I apply butter, for cooking. The 10.5" wide x 20" long griddle fits perfectly over my 2 burners & gave even distribution of heat. The two handles allowed me to pick up the griddle, with oven mitts, without getting the mitts soiled. The ribbed side of the griddle is also, very large. I was able to easily cook 6- 4.5" diameter hamburgers, at one time. The hamburger grease collected in a deep trough, along one side of the griddle. Both sides of the griddle have a generous grease trough. I'm sure this heavy duty, nearly 14-lb. griddle, will last me a lifetime.

                    Great griddle
I first tried cooking scrambled eggs on the griddle and that didn’t work too well. Beaten eggs always seems to stick to cast iron. Frying mushrooms and putting them in quesadillas worked really well. Check out the photos. The main reason I got the griddle was to make quesadillas because it is large enough to make two at once. I’ll probably try cooking fish on it in the oven too. It seems to be well made, looks nice and it is a good size. The griddle weighs 13.6 pounds/6.2 kg so it is pretty solid.

                    Grillicious
Terrific product here. Yes, it is super heavy, yes the fumes may most likely kick-off the fire alarm, yes it is a pain to clean. However, the grilling is much much better than with any regular pans. It heats quickly and evenly. It sears instantly and works for a wide range of use such as meat, fish, pancakes, sandwiches, eggs... As any cast iron products, this is a product for a lifetime. Highly recommend.

Easily Makes your Stovetop a Griddle
This converts your cooktop into a grill or griddle. If you want to grill burgers with grill marks, you put the flat side down. To make bacon or pancakes you use it flat side up. I was able to get a whole pound of bacon on the griddle. This is made of cast iron so it is heavy like a cast iron skillet. The heat is evenly distributed when you place it over two burners. The first time you use it I recommend that you use more oil to prevent sticking. After cooking burgers with BBQ sauce, it needs a good cleaning with a nylon brush. You can put it in the dishwasher but eventually you will have to reseal it with oil because the dishwasher will dry it out. I just use a nylon brush and hot water with dish detergent. It cleans up well. If you want, you can use this griddle over a campfire or grill. I'm glad that Home Depot is carrying items for cooking. This is an economical investment in your kitchen because it gives you different options.
