Q:What does ?shelf ladder? mean and why is the height capacity of this ladder so much less when it is used as a ?shelf ladder??

      Answer This Question

A:  It has to do with which rung the ladder is rated for. When this ladder is open one can safely step on a higher rung. When it is flat and leaning against a wall the rating allows standing one rung below.

A:  Mine does not stand flat on a flat surface, it wobbles!

A:  There is a shelf on top to hold items you are working with. The cross configuration allows this ladder to stand securely with less spread at the base compared to typical step ladders. The soft feet and bumper on the back of the shelf improve versatility and stability. Using this ladder for electrical and mechanical tasks for my home build. The top step puts me into the 9' ceiling with a stable base. Great addition!

A:  This ladder is a commercial/industrial rated model. Front rungs are triple riveted, as well as angle braced. For every front rung there is a rear cross brace and they are double riveted. This is the high quality/heavy duty ladder you will only need to buy once.

A:  Shelf ladder is shown in the second picture. You can lean it up against a wall or pole. The height is less doing this because you can only climb so high before you're too close to the wall to work. I have this ladder for my home and love it.

Q:So same height as a traditional 6 ft ladder just connects lower? Meaning you definitely cannot use the top as step...

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes, Exactly same height. I put this along side the other 6 foot ladders and same height. No you can-not use top plastic as a step.

A:  There are a lot of times when it's safe, convenient, or necessary to use the top step. Especially considering people that use ladders the most don't have room to carry around every size ladder just in case they might need one. How much time and effort are you willing to spend on something that takes 20 seconds to do?

        by|Aug 3, 2022

A:  HD also sells the Werner Leansafe X3 ladder, which does allow standing on the top step in the "straight ladder" configuration, which this (Louisville) ladder doesn't have: in the video for it, they show leaning against a wall and standing on the top step.

A:  Providing clarification that you are talking about the 6 ft version of this ladder. There is an 8 ft version that is actually 8 ft tall. Just to clarify because I am seeing this Q&A on the product page for the 8 ft version and it could be misleading. Thx

            by|Nov 22, 2022

A:  Yes, that is right. It is meant to lean against walls and posts at less of an angle.without putting pressure directly on the hinge. If you teally need to stand on the top rung of a six foot ladder, I'd consider buying a taller ladder. HD once sold an odd sized 7 foot fiberglass ladder, but I don't know if they are still available. And 8 footers don't fit in the house well though I have made do.

A:  Correct, you should not stand on the top step, but then standing on the top step of any step ladder is not recommended. The top is also not flat. It has variation indentations that can be used to hold nails and some small tools.

              by|Jul 10, 2020

A:  Correct - the top should NOT be used as a step.
