Does this dimmer have a light to locate it easily?

Asked by Maya November 24, 2016

It does have a backlight. As to whether you can locate it easily, I guess that would depend how good your night vision is. I notice it when I am close to it, but can't say I notice it from afar. I guess that may be because my setup location doesn't require me to see it, since I have three night lights in a big room.

The specs for this dimmer says "NO" on being LED compatible.....which models are LED compatible??

It is compatible, if you are using it on a magnetic low voltage specific driver, or transformer. Many low voltage dimmers are also used on led's to quiet buzzing.

Will this dimmer function flawlessly if used in conjunction with LED-integrated lighting fixtures? Please advise.

I have found that it is best to contact the manufacturer of the product (Halo) you are using to see what dimmer they recommend. Most have already pre-tested several different dimmers and brands and can recommend a specific brand and model.

Is there a minium wattage for the dimmer to function properly? Ex: I want to run 4 button lights (low voltage) with a total load of 20 watts.

There is, but I don't recall what that value is. I'm running 6 LED puck lights for a total of 12 watts, and it seems to work OK. I think the limitation is with the transformer, but I'm still less than the lower limit without apparent problems

Can this work for 3 way switching?

The DVELV-300P is a single pole dimmer for single switch applications. For a 3-way application, Lutron would suggest the DVELV-303P.

I am disappointed that HD stocks bulbs but does not stock any compatable dimmers. They also stock dimmers, but none of the bulbs they sell are listed on Lutron's site as being compatable. This means you either have to special order the bulbs or the dimmer, which is dumb. I used Ecosmart G25 40 watt bulbs(25 40WE W27 CL). They worked great, however I was unable to find a dimmer that would work with them without noise at HD or any of their competitors. I tried 7. I finally had to special order an ELV Dimmer from HD(DVELV-300PH-WH). It is expensive and has no dimming adjustment, so it will not go as low as I would like, but it is quiet. You must have a white wire to use an ELV Dimmer.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, " We're very sorry to hear about the buzzing you are experiencing with your EcoSmart LEDs and Lutron dimmer. A small amount of lamp buzz is normal depending upon the design and application of the bulb.    Because there is currently no industry standard in LED manufacturing, performance may vary from bulb to bulb. Lutron does extensive testing with LEDs on our dimmers, and we are continuously updating our compatibility lists. Our LED Compatibility Tool is helpful in finding compatible bulbs, but you want to be sure the LED model number you're looking at matches up exactly with what is on the list. You can view this list of bulbs at www.lutron.com/ledfinder If you still have questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1.  We're here 24/7, so feel free to reach out any time, day or night.

The ballast in the Modernforms Loft LED fixtures I purchased for a bathroom remodel require an ELV dimmer. At that time (2014) this was one of the two "qualified" dimmers. Initially shocked at the price I found that a conventional (incandescent) dimmer would not work at all. The DIVA ELV dimmer works perfectly dimming the lights to at least 10% before they shut off. The light fixtures produce a tremendous amount of light at full brightness and really need a dimmer to be comfortable (especially at night). Good product, works perfectly, easy to use.

Lutron has some beautiful, modern looking dimmers with some very attractive features. This is not one of them. The dimmer slider on the right side is functional but basic. It has an indicator light that gives off a faint orangish glow at night when the dimmer is off rather than the dim green bank of tiny LEDs or the high-tech white of the Caseta. However, this is one of a very few dimmers that work with Toggled dimmable LED tubes without flickering or humming or failing. It requires a neutral wire and costs nearly twice as much as the fancier models, but it does work. It's a pity that neither Lutron nor Toggled is working for better compatibility with their products.

We're sorry to hear about your experience with our Diva dimmer not dimming your LEDs very far. The DVELV-303P is rated only for Electronic Low Voltage loads, so performance issues such as the poor dimming and buzzing can occur when using LEDs. Your fixture may require an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer which this would then be the correct dimmer. The dimming range for LEDs varies from bulb to bulb depending on the bulb's design. We suggest making sure your dimmable LED has been tested and approved by Lutron. We have a mobile-friendly web tool to help you select bulbs that perform well with Lutron dimmers. To use the tool please visit lutron.com/ledfinder. If we have not tested your fixture, then we would suggest contacting the manufacturer to see if they have a recommended dimmer for increased performance.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to our Customer Satisfaction team at customersatisfaction@lutron.com, or call us 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, so please call us any time!
