I love these switches and have used them on numerous projects but you have to make sure your fixtures and lighting match the switches you are installing. If not the result will be flickering lights. do your research online before you purchase your products.

Background: I had been looking for a set of dimmers that I could use in my formal dinning room and fireplace room that did not require a natural to function. I was looking for something that had a little more sophistication to it in the hopes of remaining consistent with theme of the two rooms. Function: My wife (for some reason) was distinctly opposed to the idea of a paddle style dimmer. This dimmer seemed to do the trick and was a happy middle ground for everyone ("happy wife, happy life", right?). This dimmer is not a paddle style dimmer, rather the large middle button functions as an instant on/instant off function where you can tap it once to turn the light fixture on and tap it again to turn it off. The small vertical button on the right side allows you to a) adjust the various minimum/maximum light levels for your specific light fixture to prevent flickering (LED, incandescent, etc.) and b) to gradually choose a the satisfactory level of light for your mood/setting. My phone made the status indicator lights on the dimmer pop way more then they actually do. In reality, the lights are no brighter then a GFIC outlet status light (barely noticeable). Installation: The installation of went smoothly. As mentioned above, this dimmer does not require a neutral so it is good to go for most in-home applications where you may not have a neutral wire running through your home. If your wiring is clearly labeled and/or if you have an understanding of the wiring in your house then it should only take 15-20 minutes to install. Issues: This is a three pole rated dimmer but I had a couple problems with getting it to work with my recessed LED light fixture and remaining compatible with a traditional switch on the other pole. I won't get too into it but, essentially, because the dimmer is designed with the little glowing bar on the left hand side, it might not work with your LED light fixture. LED lights are SO energy efficient that even when the dimmer is "off" it still has enough power running through it to make your LED light pulsate in the "off" setting. Because of this, I had to move this dimmer from my fire room to my dining room where it would be controlling a traditional incandescent chandelier. It works perfectly in that room. Last but not least, if installing this in a three pole environment, I would recommend getting the matching dimmer (can be purchased as a set) to update both switches that will be feeding the light fixture. The reason for this is because, when you flip the traditional light switch that is in the other room to "off", it will shut down the power running to this dimmer thereby disabling it entirely. In that arrangement the dimmer will not respond at all to your touch until you flip back on the traditional light switch. Now, this could probably be resolved by hooking up a jumper wire (included in the package) or you could just go for it and change both switches in one sweep but I’m no rocket scientist/electrician. Overall: Overall, I am very satisfied with the dimmer once I moved it to the appropriate lighting fixture/spot. It takes only a short time to install and it met my expectations. You can get a significant amount of functionality from your lights this simple $29 upgrade.

"Dear Valued Home Depot Customer,We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, We are so happy to hear that you are enjoying your Maestro. We strive to deliver a high quality product to our customer and are pleased to know that you find the product to have great functionality. We do see LED compatibility issues taking place at times with certain fixtures but are glad to know that you were able to resolve the issue. The feedback regarding the difficulty of installation with a three way mechanical switch was most appreciated as well. "

I bought this to replace another Lutron Maesto Dimmer (MIR-600THW-WH), the one with Infrared remote control because the old dimmer randomly caused the lights to flicker after I replaced all my old incandescent recessed light bulbs with LEDs (Feit BPCEPAR30/930/LED/2). Things are now problem free for almost a month. The installation was easy as I used the push-in electrical connectors directly on the back., instead of the screw-on connectors on the side. I'll let other people debate the pros/cons of push-in vs screw-on electrical connectors. The installation kit included an extra connecting wire and 3 twist caps, that I did not need as I just reused everything that was previously there. All said an done in 15 minutes total.

Truly impressive device - not your father's dimmer
The Lutron Maestro digital dimmer represents a huge improvement in old school dimming devices. This digital device eliminates many of the limitations we just accepted in the past. This dimmer allows you to control and dim a lighting circuit from up to 10 locations using its Companion dimmers. In the past we would have used a combination of 3-way and 4-way dimmers and have only 1 of them dimmable. Not with these. All of these are fully capable of controlling the light level independent of the others. No more walking across the room to turn up a dimmed light because you can't control it from another switch. I'll never install another old style dimmer after seeing this unit. These dimmers introduce the idea of a "Communication" traveler, allowing multiple devices to communicate with one another. These all connect to a blue screw, which I've not seen on any older 3 or 4-way switches/dimmers. Don't rely on past experience with 3 and 4-way wiring. They operate much differently and concept of travelers for mechanical switching is history with these. Replacing a single switch with a Maestro dimmer is super simple and much like replacing a switch with an older dimmer. Replacing 3 and 4-way switches is where the communication traveler comes into play. The wiring is still very simple, but you have to be sure to remember what color wires you are using as the communication traveler on the blue screws. You'll need to note which wires are the line and load wires as well. I like to use #1 Robertson screwdriver bits on wiring devices, but these units work best with #0 bits. Flat blade and Phillips are also usable, of course. Ganging these requires removal of 3 small tabs on either side of the device, as is the case on many dimmers. This is easily done with a pair of pliers. Dimming performance is excellent, once the programming is complete for LEDs or CFLs. The programming is fast but the instructions must be followed closely. Incandescent lighting works immediately without programming. Be sure to get compatible bulbs. Not only do incompatible bulbs not work well (or at all), use of them can void the warranty. Also, be sure to use the same brand and kind of bulb for all the lights on the same circuit. Mixing incandescent and LED will function (sort of), but light levels will be majorly different (see picture). We are super pleased with these dimmers. Rarely do we see something this game-changing in devices that haven't changed materially in decades. Really excellent engineering and performance.

            Clean looking full range dimmer
I recently installed these dimmers all through my house. They're a bit on the pricier side but you can't compare the looks vs the ones with the clunky slide knobs. These by far look the best, and give the best range of control on light output. I will say, the range of dimming varies with the type of bulbs you are using. Some LEDs will dim more or less than others. - In my dining room I have incandescents in a chandelier and they go from full brightness all the way down to near candlelight (first part of video below) - In my bedrooms I have retrofit LED recessed lighting and they get very bright, but only dim down to say 25% (2nd part of video below) - In my kitchen I have LED flood bulbs (regular flood bulbs, not retrofit can light) and those went from full brightness all the way down to barely visible (not in video) All said, no complaints. They're great to have in the morning, when full brightness isn't so easy on the eyes, and also at night when you're winding down but still want to be able to see. Very happy with them and expect years of use.

            Check for Bulb Compatibility
Just an FYI, the three pack doesn't save any money according to the online pricing but it offers buying convenience. You do save money with the six pack on the other hand. Lutron has a very extensive compatibility list of LED and CFL bulbs that have been tested so that you won't end up with buzzing or flickering. If your bulb isn't on the list you may actually need a different type of technology to avoid those issues. Lutron offers a slightly more expensive dimmer for those situations. It's a matter of bulb technology and not a problem with the dimmer. The delayed off feature is great to keep you from stumbling over furniture or pets as you leave a room where the switch is at the door or where the next room is dark as well. The small LEDs that indicate the level of dimming are not so bright as to be annoying. I have had these dimmers installed in some parts of my home for more than 15 years and they are reliable, quiet and attractive.
