Q:This dimmer switch gives my LED Foxlux recessed lights a really good range of brightness but when the lights are dimmed and then turned off, the dinner switch has to be turned up quite a bit before the lights will come back on. What causes this?

Answer This Question

A:  "We're sorry to hear about your experience with MACL-153M. The dimming range for LEDs varies from bulb to bulb depending on the bulb's design. That's why we engineered our LED+ (formerly called C·L) dimmers with a low-end adjustment, which allows you to adjust the dimming range of your LED bulb. For easy step-by-step instructions for adjusting the dimming range, please see step 7 in the following guide: https://assets.lutron.com/a/documents/Replacing_a_dimmer_with_a_dimmer.pdf We also suggest making sure we've tested and approved your dimmable LED. Lutron offers a mobile-friendly web tool to help you select bulbs that work best with Lutron dimmers. To use the tool, please visit lutron.com/ledfinder. If you have additional questions or concerns, we're happy to help. Please reach out to our Customer Satisfaction team at customersatisfaction@lutron.com, or call us at 1-844-LUTRON1. Answer This Question

A:  Hello. This dimmer is not part of our smart line of dimmers and will not work with Hubspace. Even with our smart line of dimmers, they are also not compatible with Hubspace either. We use RF and our own smart hub to control our Caseta line which can then integrate with Alexa, Google, or Homekit. If you want more info about Caseta, please visit Casetawireless.com for more information.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, thank you for your question! Currently, there's no industry standard or regulation for manufacturing LEDs, which is why performance varies with dimming controls. That's why we extensively test a variety of LEDs from many different manufacturers and offer a mobile-friendly web tool to help you select bulbs that provide the best dimming performance with your Lutron dimmers. To access the tool, please visit lutron.com/ledfinder. An exact LED model number is required for determining case-by-case testing results. We hope this helps! Q:Can this be used to control a ceiling fan?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello, thank you for your question. The Maestro LED+ Dimmer model MACL-153M is only rated for controlling lighting and cannot be used to control a ceiling fan. If you would like to control fan and lighting from the same unit, we recommend model MACL-LFQ, and if you are looking to control fan only, we recommend a similar fan-only model such as the Diva model DVFSQ-F: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutron-Diva-1-5-Amp-Single-Pole-3-Way-3-Speed-Fan-Control-White-DVFSQ-F-WH/300986866 We hope this helps! Just what I needed for my new FEIT Electric LED GU5.3 bi-pin 50Watt Dimmable Daylight LED Flood Lights to work properly! The only down side is instead of a slow up to full bright it’s much quicker than the older model of Lutron Dimmer switch that could only control halogen or incandescent bulbs but not LED, so for that reason I was forced to upgrade to this model just to be able to properly control the LED Light Bulbs.

Bought this dimmer to control 8 50w Quartz can lights. It was super easy to install and the switch handled the 400w draw with minimum heat. I love it works great.

          Classy looking full range dimmer
I recently installed these dimmers all through my house. They're a bit on the pricier side but you can't compare the looks vs the ones with the clunky slide knobs. These by far look the best, and give the best range of control on light output. I will say, the range of dimming varies with the type of bulbs you are using. Some LEDs will dim more or less than others. - In my dining room I have incandescents in a chandelier and they go from full brightness all the way down to near candlelight (first part of video below) - In my bedrooms I have retrofit LED recessed lighting and they get very bright, but only dim down to say 25% (2nd part of video below) - In my kitchen I have LED flood bulbs (regular flood bulbs, not retrofit can light) and those went from full brightness all the way down to barely visible (not in video) All said, no complaints. They're great to have in the morning, when full brightness isn't so easy on the eyes, and also at night when you're winding down but still want to be able to see. Very happy with them and expect years of use.

Elegant design, may not work well with all LED lights
This dimmer is being used to control a new LED ceiling fixture in our kitchen. Normally we want full brightness, but sometimes it would be nice to reduce it- hence the need for a dimmer. This dimmer was very easy to install with clear instructions, but they warn that it may not work with all lights, and refers you to their website that has a list of compatible lights- ours was not on it. Despite that, the dimmer did work with only one minor problem: at the lowest two settings the light had a slight flicker. Only time will tell if is really an annoyance, but if it is we will just avoid these values.

A Must with LED Lights You Dim
Even when an LED light says its is dimmable you can encounter problems with a standard dimmer. That was my situation in our kitchen. We would get annoying random flickering on all 8 can lights with the old dimmer, which I will relocate to another room. I have owned 2 standard (not LED/CFL) Lutron Maestro dimmers for my home theater for more than 15 years and love them. This unit has a lower power rating but remember that LED lights use about 1/6th the power of incandescent and halogen bulbs and still usually give off a bit more light (lumens) than their equivalent rated bulbs.. But this dimmer is great to take full advantage of the LED light. It features dimming at discrete steps with a memory setting for each level. If you tap the switch once to turn it on it returns to that memory setting. A double tap returns the lights to full brightness for that one cycle retaining the memory setting for the next time you turn the lights on. Another great feature is the delayed shutoff. Simply hold the the switch for about 2 seconds and the lights stay on for about 30 seconds as you exit the room. Then they dim to off just as they do without the delay. The unit is stylish with its snap-on cover that hides the screws that attach the sub-plate to the dimmer-switch. Converting from a standard switch or dimmer can be done in about 15 minutes including finding the appropriate breaker to cut the power while you make the changeover. I look forward to installing a similar unit with motion sensing next. Highly recommend switching to this unit and LED bulbs for energy savings as well as the features mentioned. A good place to start is in the room you use most (kitchen, family room).
