It stuck well to my front metal storm door (so far at least, installed just a few days ago). I also considered using sheet metal screws, but I don't think I will unless it starts coming off in the future. It should cover your 1 3/8" gap. Just make sure you place the 3m strip at the very bottom of the door, while making sure the entire sticky strip contacts the metal so it will adhere to it well. I had the same problem and gap space as you and it worked well for me. Good luck!!

Laura, this item only comes in a 36" length. You can go with an aluminum screw on and that would come in a 48" length. If your local Home Depot does not stock the aluminum 48", you can go to the Pro Desk and do a special order.

Cut the aluminum with a fine-tooth hacksaw. You can temporarily pull the rubber seal partially out of the aluminum strip where you need to make the cut. I cut the aluminum to the exact width of the bottom of the door. Then, I carefully cut the rubber seal with a sharp scissor. I cut the rubber seal at a point beyond the width of the door allowing it to slightly overlap the door frame/casing so the seal covered the gap between the door bottom and the door frame.

It should be installed on the outside bottom of your storm door. Unless you have a perfectly flat surface under the storm door, in order to completely seal out weather and bugs, you should have a threshold under the door for the door seal to close against. View the picture on the packaging to visualize my point. Home Depot sells a low profile aluminum threshold that you can attach to the floor under the storm door with screws or silicone rubber sealant.

3M Strip Very Crooked
I ordered this product online. When I opened it, the 3M strip was very crooked, such that the product can’t be used properly. Home Depot would it allow me to return the item online.

Exactly what I needed to finish up our screen door project. Our door jam didn’t allow me to install a screen door without having a large gap on the bottom of the door. This product was what I needed to close the gap.

Nice product, great price
This cinch seal does a good job of sealing the area underneath a door, keeping drafts at bay. It has a strong adhesive that keeps the product attached even if it drags across carpet every time you open the door, and the seal actually has three rubber strips of varying lengths which help form a continuous seal against the door sill. Also it its favor is the incredibly reasonable price. The drawbacks are almost all installation related: (1) instructions are very minimal (2) a hacksaw may be required depending on the width of your door (3) it's unclear if the product is supposed to go on the outside or inside of the door, but the illustration on the packaging shows it mounted on the inside (assuming the door opens inwards) (4) once installed, you cannot remove the product - I highly recommend that if you try to install it, you remove a small amount of the tape backing on either end of the product and mount it temporarily to get the right positioning, then mark it, remove the product carefully, and pull the rest of the tape backing off. Note that if the product is mounted too low, it will likely jam in between the door and a welcome mat or other object inside the door, and if it's mounted too high, it simply won't seal with the door sill. That's why carefully testing the position with a small amount of tape removed, as suggested above, is critical.

Gap under the door is gone.
I installed two of these today. One was an old screw on type; the other the Cinch. My 36" doors were only 35 3/4" so both had to be trimmed with a hacksaw per directions. Because the Cinch is an adhesive, the door had to be washed (per directions) with a 50/50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water. The time to put them on was about the same, although i needed a drill to make pilot holes and a screw driver to put in the screws. The big difference is that the Cinch has 3 sweeps all molded together and the screw on has only one. The Cinch sweeps are softer more pliable; the screw sweep stiffer. I am glad the gaps under the doors are gone, but I would recommend and buy the Cinch the next time, if ever, it has to be done again.

This door seal seems to be well constructed. I hesitated about it’s application with stick on tape but since I did not want to put holes in the bottom of the door this is the next best thing. I only gave it 4 stars because the way it was packaged did not allow you to see the construction until you open it. It was then that discovered that the black tape protruded out onto the white seal and was quite noticeable. I managed to cut most of it off with a utility knife but you can still see it somewhat.
