can it heat water from a well?

can it heat water from a well?
Asked by: Rich
No. Mine does not heat spring water to a usable temperature. It should based on 3.1 GPM rating. But it doesn't. Just a little better than "warm". Had to buy traditional electric hot water heater.

If you run this unit off of a 20lb (BBQ Grill) tank, which is approximately 5 gal., how long would it run? I am in Texas in a 72 degree zone and only need to supply a outdoor shower and sink.
Asked by: Sport
Well it would depend on how often you shower and use your sink as it only fires up when you turn on the hot water valve

Can I get my money back? nothing buy trouble with the shower.
Asked by: Mert
Do not buy this water heater, I purchased three units and had them installed and after a large amount of money spent I purchased a 40 gallon heater that the manager sold me. Unfortunately he sold me the wrong unit, he gave me a natural gas unit and I needed an LP gas unit. I trusted him and when it failed I went back to Home Depot and after purchasing three wall units, that don't work in the North East and a manager who would not admit he made the mistake by selling 40 gallon natural gas. I did not get a refund for their mistake and went to another store and purchased a 40 gallon LP unit.

I purchased this heater with great hopes, but it quit working after about a year. No problem, I thought--it is under warranty. However, after multiple calls to Marey and emails for warranty repair there is no reply. In terms of working, the water heater is intermittent. I increased my house pressure to make sure it would not shut off, but this is definitely not good for regular day use. As a backup or cabin heater---fine--but not for everyday use. It may shut down for no reason during normal use, and you have to turn off the hot water, turn it back on and then wait for the heater to fire up again. Not fun in a shower!! I'm giving it a rating of 1-2 for regular use, but I would give it a 3 for occasional use. If Marey would honor their warranty, I would upgrade the rating.

My installer has watched all the YouTube videos and tried four different adjustments and still no consistant temperature. I am so disappointed that I spent all this money only to have to buy a new hot water heater. This unit might be good for a camp or garage but for a home, NO!!!

If we had the choice again, I would not choose another tankless water heater of any brand, especially not a Marey. We recently purchased a Marey 10GL to replace an existing tank-style water heater. We chose the Marey because it was less expensive, and appeared simple to install. We watched the installation video on the HD web site, and it looked as simple as hooking up a few hoses. However, installation of the unit was not quite as simple as they suggest, and we have encountered several problems that have required far too much time to resolve. Below I will briefly discuss the issues that you might find helpful to understand before you make a purchase and invest your time: 1. After the purchase, we discovered that the Marey has a 4 inch vent pipe, whereas our existing water heater had a 3 inch vent pipe, which is “standard” for most tank-style heaters. Changing the entire existing 3 inch vent pipe to 4 inch through the ceiling and out the roof or wall could be a non-trivial, frustrating and time consuming effort (it was for us). You are probably aware that it would be a violation of code to reduce from a 4 inch to a 3 inch vent pipe, and that doing so might introduce risks. 2. After installation was complete, the Marey would not light some of the time, and when it would light, it would take many clicks of the igniter to light. We had to watch several Marey videos to gain an understanding of how the unit works, then open the unit, then diagnose that the igniter was mis-aligned, and then tighten it into the proper alignment. Time consuming. The bracket that hold the igniter in place was very loose, and apparently was never tightened at the factory. The unit now lights immediately, when it lights at all. 3. The Marey leaves a distinct odor of propane in the air whenever it lights. Obviously, the unit is opening the propane and then sparking its igniter, and some amount of propane is escaping unburned prior to ignition. Because the unit re-lights whenever hot water is used, this will result in a significant amount of propane being released into the air over time. Marey technical support said that smelling propane after lighting was “normal” for the unit. As such, the unit is not suitable for use in any enclosed area except for a garage that is often opened. It would not be suitable whatsoever for an indoor closet or basement. 4. The unit serves only a dishwasher, kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet. It would not light for the bathroom faucet, which is newly installed. Experimentation proved that if the faucet spout diffuser was removed, the Marey would light. We determined that the “low-flow” diffuser on the spout restricts the gallons per minute of water flow to a level that was too low for the Marey to sense, and therefore wouldn’t light. We replaced the faucet diffuser with the highest flow diffuser we could find, and now the Marey lights if the faucet is opened all the way. It will not light if the faucet is only opened partially. Marey technical support was not able to help us identify or resolve this issue. Time consuming. 5. Marey customer support was polite, and was easy to reach via phone on several instances. When we attempted to use their email-based support, they were not responsive. When we talked with them, they had plenty of discussion and questions, but were of no real help. We wasted quite a bit of time testing, diagnosing and resolving the issues ourselves. 6. The Marey instructions state that the inner diameter of the supply lines must be at least 3/8ths inch wide to avoid restricting water flow. However, all of their demonstration and support videos use “standard” flexible supply lines, and all such lines have a ¼ inch restriction on each end (we checked!). To implement alternative plumbing of cold and hot water to the unit having at least 3/8ths inch inner diameter will involve non-trivial plumbing using copper or other heat-tolerant alternatives, which will be more work than the Marey videos suggest. We did, in fact, implement alternative plumbing, but it did not help resolve the issues described above in any way. More time wasted.
