Questions & Answers

can it heat water from a well?

can it heat water from a well?
Asked by: Rich
No. Mine does not heat spring water to a usable temperature. It should based on 3.1 GPM rating. But it doesn't. Just a little better than "warm". Had to buy traditional electric hot water heater.

Can I get my money back? nothing buy trouble with the shower.
Asked by: Mert
Do not buy this water heater, I purchased three units and had them installed and after a large amount of money spent I purchased a 40 gallon heater that the manager sold me. Unfortunately he sold me the wrong unit, he gave me a natural gas unit and I needed an LP gas unit. I trusted him and when it failed I went back to Home Depot and after purchasing three wall units, that don't work in the North East and a manager who would not admit he made the mistake by selling 40 gallon natural gas. I did not get a refund for their mistake and went to another store and purchased a 40 gallon LP unit.

The specifications say "Total BTU - 79.228 Btu" Is that per minute, or what?
Asked by: Jack
The 79 BTU figure refers to heat loss per hour, i.e. the amount of wasted propane/NG that is not converted to heat which raises the water temperature (according to the manual). This is the heat that goes up the stack--and can be used to help calculate the total amount LNG/NG needed based on your expected usage. Converting to minutes gives about 1 1/4 BTU / min loss. The manual states that the 3.1 Marey can produce 1.4 gal/min at 115 degrees from 52 degree inlet water, or 42 BTU/min = 2500 BTU/hour . This is equivalent to about 1/5 of a ton of heating (or negative refrigeration). Thus, the heat loss is pretty small compared to heat transferred so it can generally be ignored with respect sizing the heater. However, it can be important when determining the type of vent stack.

After reading other reviews, it appears the negative comments are from people who are to lazy to read the instructions and adjust 3 knobs? I keep the temperature under HALF, Flow on LOW and season on Winter and take endless steamy hot showers! Thought about a bigger one and am so glad I got this one for it's BTU efficiency. PS Make sure to buy The 4" B-vent Exhaust Pipe & 90.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from water heater for a sprinter/camper We bought this to replace a less expensive one, that seemed to be identical to others on internet, but it came from China. We did not realize was that was the source at the time, and it turned out to be defective, mainly due to a broken piece of pipe inside. Then the part they sent to replace it was not the correct size. This Marey brand model appears to be much better constructed and it has worked well for our us the few times we have used it so far. We now need to winterize and the Owners Manual is not very detailed about the process, so we will be checking with their customer service soon for guidance. We have read in reviews that they are helpful, so we trust that is true.

We have had this heater approximately a month and it has outperformed my expectations. The water coming out of our well is a balmy 50 degrees, and we have this set up in a not very well insulated shower house. We have comfortably taken showers when it is below freezing in our shower room (we always drain the unit immediately afterward). We run this heater with the water flow low on the winter setting and the flame turned most of the way up, and it provides an abundance of hot water. If we turned it all the way up, it would be too hot to shower in. So far the only complaint I could think of is it tends to chew through D cell batteries pretty quickly. We started opening the battery cover so the batteries are disengaged while the unit is not in use to try to help keep them longer. We use rechargeable AA batteries around the house, so I got some AA to D converters on eBay so we can use our rechargeables in it. The last regular Ds we put in the heater haven't run out yet so I have yet to try this -- just food for thought. Otherwise I am extremely pleased with this tankless heater and plan to continue to use it in our home after we're done remodeling in lieu of a regular hot water heater.
