Product Overview

Temple-inland ultra stock MDF is valued for its defect-free composition and highly uniform density that allow it to cut, rout, shape and drill cleanly, holding intricate detail with a minimum of waste and tool wear. Panel for panel, it's hard to beat for material efficiency, machining performance and productivity. Ultra stock MDF also finishes beautifully and consistently. Its flat, smooth surface delivers exceptional results whether laminated, direct printed or painted. Sanded with a range of available grits, it performs well even with very thin overlays and dark paint colors. Dimensional stability is another important benefit. That means swelling and thickness variations are virtually eliminated when using this product. The precision craftsmen machine into their component parts during production will be maintained in the assembled product they produce. Fasteners will draw tight and end users will enjoy the accurate fit and clean appearance.
  • Cuts and routs cleanly
  • Decorative edge profiles and intricate contours deep in the core are also easily produced
  • Ultra stock premium can be painted, printed, stained, veneered or laminated with excellent results
  • Machined edges are smooth and perform equally well for either wet or dry film edge finishing

Several conditions to consider If you are making flat panel doors using euro hinges, then the answer is no. The 35mm hole needs to be 1/2 inch deep. Any other hinge, yes If you are using this for a frame and panel door with a 3/4 inch thick frame with euro hinges, then, yes, that would work.

I wouldn't, it soaks up water like a sponge and doesn't hold staples strongly.

If you cover it with laminate, it might work but I would opt for 3/4 in plywood instead.

Can this be riped down into 5 3/4" strips at the store? What's the charge for that?

Short answer, yes. There would be many, many cuts - could be a small charge because of the unusual number of cuts. It would not be a prohibitive cost.

Most Home Depot Stores will make a few cuts free. Check with your local store on their policy. I have often had 4x8 sheets cut without a charge.

They won't be able to even rip it to that size. They have a safety rule that they won't cut anything more narrow the saw guides. Which is about 6 inches.

MDF is an excellent choice for indoor projects that requires no expansion or contraction. I've used it for woodwork and wainscoting. Excellent for painting and easy cutting. It doesn't route.

A piece of material is a piece of material. The difference is the store did the 5 cuts for me, no charge! This saved me a bunch of time and work. Since my table saw or circular saw are small this would have been extremely hard for me by myself. Not to mention getting it home on or in my vehicle. It took the employee less 5 minutes to do it with the right equipment and would easily fit in my car. Service keeps my your customer.
