A:  You have not indicated what Moen tub spout part number you are dealing with. Your description could be any number of Moen parts. So this must necessarily be a generalized answer, and may not be exactly applicable to the specific you are using. I have installed two different Moen tub spouts which came with Moen single handle shower valves and trim kits. The Moen instruction / installation sheets which come with each one specify on page three of each set of instructions at Arabic numbered step 3 in each set of instructions a pipe length between 2 and 2 1/2 inches from the wall. The instruction sheets are number INS 10600 (11/19) and INS 10177B (8/ 14). I assume that the numbers inside the parentheses are the dates the separate instructions were issued by Moen. Neither of the instruction sheets have on them a Moen shower valve kit part number. Have you tried Moen's on line help? It's been my experience that the Moen telephone help line is useless; always busy and one can never get through to a human being.

The Moen Monticello Diverter Spout in Chrome, part number 3806, is an IPS or thread-on tub spout, that threads onto the ½” pipe.
