Surprise! It's a heck of a good toaster. I have a 60 year old Sunbeam art deco chrome toaster that I bought used 30 years ago. In those 30 years I've purchased a half dozen new toasters that could handle bagels and other wide breads. None of them worked worth a darn. None of them lasted long. This toaster evenly toasts my whole wheat bread. A frozen bagel set on the highest setting in the bagel mode came out evenly toasted. I had to put it down for an extra minute to get the darkness I was looking for. The toaster is larger than it looks in the images provided. I hope it lasts for a few years. All in all it's a great toaster for the price.

This is the first toaster I have owned that along with the traditional up and down lever has separate control knobs: cancel, defrost/reheat and bagel. It has extra wide slots for toasting buns, bagels or thick sliced bread. Regular sliced bread doesn't just flop around in the extra wide slots because there are “bread carriages” in each slot that grasp and center the slice of bread for centered toasting. It has a kind of flimsy feel but maybe that has to do with the extra wide slots. It does, however, have a problem with toasted consistency on both sides of the bread.. One time the bread will come out evenly toasted on both sides and the next time the inside is nice and brown and the outside still white.

We needed a new toaster and picked the Magi Chef MCST2SS. The Magic Chef looked more stylish than the black unit it replaced. It is an attractive two slice toaster with 7 heat settings and 3 buttons for Reheat/Defrost, Bagel and Cancel with small led lights next to each button. When the toaster is operating the Cancel button light is lit. The lights beside the other buttons only light if you activate that button. When the toaster is not operating there are no lights on. After running the toaster through several cycles with no bread in it to condition it the toaster has been working great. Like all toasters it takes a few usages to learn your new favorite settings.
Our only suggestion is the control knob needs to be redesigned on future models. The indicator on the knob for the setting was barely visible especially early in the morning before the first cup of coffee. Also, it would help if the knob was tactile. I made ours easier to see and feel with a little red tape

I really like this toaster. It isn't super high end but will look just fine if a black and stainless look is what you are after. I use the bagel function 95% of the time. Toasts perfectly at number 4. My previous toaster would burn on number 3 so I didn't have any wiggle room. This toaster goes to 7 so plenty of room to dial it down for warming up a pastry or left over waffles.
The slots are a tad narrower than my old one but it fits a big hamburger bun just fine. The image of the toasted buns are at number 4. It does take an extra 20 or 30 seconds but I think it is worth it for an even toast. The elements on the outside heat when in bagel mode which is different. That may be the reason it gives a more even consistent color.
I think it is very intuitive. Almost the exact same functionality as the previous two toasters we had. This one is the best of the 3 and also the least expensive.
The only odd thing is the crumb tray is removed from the back. Not a big deal for me. The oils make bread crumbs sticky and they get in the coils so when cleaning I always unplug it and turn it upside down to shake out all the crumbs. I have never found a toaster that will empty properly. I wish the entire bottom would come off to clean.

One of the worst toasters I've ever used.
The elements take a very long time to heat up.
The temperature control setting is nearly impossible to see.
The cord cleats under the unit don't work to contain the extra length of power cord you may not be using.
The crumb tray is in the back, so you have to pull it away from the wall in order to empty it; and the tray is so shallow that you need to empty it after every use.
Instead of separate buttons for REHEAT and DEFROST functions, this unit uses the same button for both functions; making it difficult to remember whether I should push it once or twice. I don't want to refer to the user manual every time I want to use one of these functions.
The bagel setting uses the OUTER heating elements, which is backward from the way people think about bagels.
The slots are wide enough for the thickest bread or bagels, but that causes regular sliced bread to get caught below the top, requiring the user to fiddle with it just to get the bread out after toasting.
After testing this for a week, I went back to using my old toaster.

This toaster Magic Chef 2-Slice Stainless Steel Wide Slot Toaster with Crumb Tray, Silver is the WORST toaster I have ever bought! It does not toast on setting numbers below 4 the toast is still white with a dryness to it. It is not worth my time to return it I will need a new toaster soon enough. Very disappointed in Magic Chef they usually have very good products.
