Q:I'm used to "sous vide only" units like Anova. The temperature regulation seems poor: set to 145, it's between 155 and 159 depending on where I measure. This is a huge range. Yes, the lid's in the closed position.

A: A little bit complicated to understand coming from a different electric cooker. Sometimes rice gets stuck to the bottom. Overall good, I have a lot to learn about it yet.

cheaper than instapot for a reason
always get what u pay for...item well packed ill give u that..first the controlpanel membrane has air pockets under it.. it would crinkle as u ran your finger over it. cheap... then the steam valve pulls right off... very loose and doesn't lock in. I can an burn accident waiting to happen with that.. not happy with overall quality so I returned it.. I'll get an instaPot down the road...

A modern day version of the classic pressure cooker, this appliance will function in that capacity (with the benefits of reduced cooking times and tenderizing effect on some cuts of meat) while also able to function as a slow cooker, rice maker, steamer as well as provide the controlled heat environment for those who favor the sous vide method of cooking. (The “9-in-1” functions include searing, keeping warm, yogurt making and cake baking, in addition to the above features). The unit is ETL listed, and is provided with a detachable power cord set (which requires a three-prong, grounding type 120-volt receptacle outlet). The “front panel” is a membrane type overlay which keeps the actual switches protected from spilled or spattered food and/or liquid, facilitating clean up. The glass lid (used for non-pressure cooking, slow cooking) comes with the handle and hardware for attaching it, requiring some assembly. Care should be taken when assembling, as no torque values are specified, and the hardware is not inherently resistant to loosening. A manual, small cookbook, cooking function “cheat sheet” and Quick Guides to pressure cooking and Sous Vide are provided, along with a steaming rack, inner pot, silicone mitts, condensation collection cup and plastic ladle, measuring cup and spoon. The steam vent valve is described in the instructions as “somewhat loose”. It is, in fact, so loose feeling that I was concerned that it was broken, however it functioned as intended. The supplied mitts are useful when manually venting steam as the steam discharge is quite voluminous. It is best to not place the appliance directly under anything that may be damaged by steam impingement. A spare gasket is supplied, different color than the one which is installed, though nothing is noted as to any other differences. The instruction book does not always identify and/or illustrate components which are referred to and, in the case of steam release, uses the “quick release” and “normal release” terms several pages in advance of defining what “NR” and “QR” mean. In addition, some inconsistencies are noted, such as whether or not to use the delayed start function when cooking rice. I was primarily interested in the use as a pressure cooker and for cooking rice. To that end, I prepared a pork shoulder to make pulled pork as well as cooking brown rice. The pork shoulder took approximately one half the time it normally takes me when prepared in a Dutch oven however the 6-quart capacity made it somewhat difficult to easily sear the pork on all sides prior to cooking (using a 4 and ½ pound pork shoulder). The results after the cooking cycle was completed were excellent, allowing the meat to be easily shredded. When cooking rice using the suggested times, the brown rice was a little undercooked, but this can be corrected by adding some additional cook time. After use, the inner pot is easily cleaned as is the cooker cover. The sealing lip on the cooker outer vessel does have a tendency to gather food deposits and requires careful cleaning remove same (see photo). Even if you only use several of the appliance’s functions (for example, pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker and steamer), the savings in storage space will be welcome. The ability to reduce cooking times using the pressure cooker mode, will be welcome as well as the ability to control the temperature for slow cooking stews and soups.

Make preparing meals easier and quicker with this pressure cooker. Easy to use and the directions are good for the average individual that never uses later technology. Cook 1 and one half inch Filet Mignon's to the desired doneness in half and the meat was tender. It does take about 15-20 minutes for the water to get to the desired temperature. This has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen.

This is a handy multi-feature cooker product. Takes the place of a pressure cooker, a crock pot, a steamer, and a rice cooker, and works as good if not better than each of the individual pieces. Wow! Large drum sticks from rock hard frozen to the plate in 20-25 minutes using the pressure cooker. Small Beef shoulder roast to tender pull beef in 45 minutes using the pressure cooker. Chili using the crock featured in the photos. NIce to be able to brown your meat in the cooker and then go right into the Crock or Steamer mode without a second pan. Clean up is a snap with the removable stainless steel insert. Comes with a couple of utensils, a fair recipe/instruction cookbook, steamer insert, and two rubber insulated grippers. After using it for a couple weeks the only criticism we have is that it appears that the lowest crock setting is higher than we would have expected. Not sure I would want to slow cook something for 8 hours on this setting. We may be missing something in the many features that allows a slower cook temp. Really like this product.

I have heard the benefits of using a pressure cooker, but have never used one prior to this unit. Unboxing, it has a lot with it: tools, mini mits, a rack, an extra seal, slow cooker lid, quick reference menu, a small recipe book and the larger manual. Everything you need to confidently get started.
I ran it through the test cycle, and again, as someone who’s never used a pressure cooker, I would like to warn you that it is very easy to release pressure. Don’t mess with the pressure release to see if is building pressure. It’ll release stream and you’ll have to restart the test.
We cooked a roast with it and were pleased with the results and the time saved. We usually slow cook it for 8 hours. It took an hour in the pressure cooker, plus the 15 minute release time. It will take some experimenting to dial it in perfectly, but the roast was fork tender and flavorful. There are a bunch of options and I look forward to trying more of them.

I just love my new MAGIC CHEF 6 QT. 9-IN-1 MULTI FUNCTION PRESSURE COOKER WITH SOUS VIDE IN MATTE BLACK! This handy kitchen tool does it all!
