how to use 3D printers

Asked by bruce April 20, 2015

Hello bruce, To create 3D prints you will need in addition to the printer, the print filament in your color of choice, as well as software for your computer. MakerBot provides software for the PC and Mac to send prints to the printer. I hope this helps. Cheers, Chris

I have owned 3 printers now and this one was the most expensive but zero frustrations. All the others took time and patients getting them calibrated and tweaked before I had an acceptable print. The first one was a Oneup then a Printrbot. Both are good for the money spent more so with the Printrbot. But once I received the Makerbot I was just amazed with the ease of 3D printing. This printer has some amazing tech. I really dig that it has built in WIFI, lights, camera, and filament spool. Its a very tidy package. The only negative that I have it that it could be quieter. The clear plastic side windows vibrate. I'm planning to run a bit of clear silicone around the windows to stop the vibration.

Great starter product
I've used 5 different three printers and owned 3 and this one is the most easy to use and reliable of them all. The Mini doesn't have the same resolution as its big brother (Replicator 2x) but it's good enough for most day to day printing like building a custom phone cradle for the car or printing a replacement part for something that broke around the house. The Mini doesn't take up a lot of space but it's not not quieter than a larger printer. In fact it's a much louder than the Afinia/U-print printers (which are really quiet printers. If you don't plan to sleep in the same room it shouldn't be an issue. The reliability when using the standard settings is great. I very very rarely run into issues during a complicated printing operation. Unlike the Printrbot which requires constant attention and tinkering.

Far exceeds expectations
After much review reading and a bit of trepidation given those reviews I must say that this printer far exceeds my expectations. I am new to the 3d printing universe and between Thingaverse, OpenSCAD and the printer itself I am already creating the things that I need and the printer has been outstanding at reproducing my designs. Outstanding Makerbot......as soon as this one starts making me some money I will upgrade. :-)

Very cool. Can print almost anything you want. It's a smaller version of the big one. No tweaking or tinkering required like with the other brands of printers.
