The Makita 12 Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser (model LS1219L) combines capacity, accuracy and efficient dust extraction in a more compact size, with a unique 2-Steel Rail Sliding System that offers a reduced footprint for operation flush against a wall. The innovative direct-drive gearbox and guard system is engineered for increased vertical cutting capacity of baseboard (6-3/4) and crown molding (8 nested). It will also make 15 crosscuts at 90. The saw miters 0 to 60 left and right, with positive stops at 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6, 45 and 60 (left or right). The bevel lock is located in the front of the saw for easy access and quick adjustments from 0 to 48 (left and right). The saw is powered by a 15 Amp direct drive motor with soft start, a key point of difference. Direct drive enables smoother start-ups and consistent, constant power with no belts to slip or replace. The electric brake provides added convenience. In addition, the electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load for smoother, higher-quality cutting.

    A:  Thank you for your question. The LS1219L 12" Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser has a max cutting capacity at 90° of 3-5/8" x 15" and a max cutting capacity at 45° of 3-5/8" x 10-1/2".

                        Built like a tank
                        Just got this saw after having used the 12" sliding Ryobi and the difference is night and day. The dust collection is fantastic and the blade cuts smooth as butter. The soft start and relatively quiet motor make it a pleasure to use. ALSO, please note that this model does not come with those dinky metal bar outfeed supports, it comes with REALLY NICE cast aluminum ones (see photo) that are flat and square, a massive difference from what is shown in these photos. This sucker has been going on sale down to 499 quite often lately so just be patient, it's a killer deal at that price.

                          This was a replacement for my old (20 year) Makita 12 inch compound miter saw. The m have made some valid improvements in that time and this is a solid work tool. It will go 60 degrees either side and up to 48 degrees on the bevel. That is a very good and handy feature. All the handles, locks, guards, safety switches and swivel features work well. It is heavy, which is good but difficult to tote around. Dust collection is fairly good with a strong vacuum but the hold down could be better. It is not cheap but you get a lot for the money. IMHO, it is the best 12 inch available.

                          Worst saw I’ve ever owned
                          Never holds true, I have had back to makita 7x under warranty. Motor has gone out. They finally replaced with new saw. Same problems. It grabs materials a lot too
