Q:Will this saw cut granite ? which is the best saw for everyday granite cutting ?
by|Apr 3, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The 5377MG circular saw is built for framing walls, floors, and roofs using a range of dimensional lumber and dense engineered lumber, including LVL, PSL and I-Joists, headers, and microlams; as well as ripping panels such as plywood, OSB, particle board, and dense structural panels. If you are interested in cutting granite, we recommend the model 4101RH, please refer to the following link https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/4101RH.

Q:Seems like there are couple of variations of this saw. What is the function of the built in fan? How does that make it differ from the cheaper hypoid saw without fan? Is there advantage to the fan? Thanks

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question on the 5377MG hypoid saw. The 5377MG has oil bath technology with a built-in fan. The fan helps to circulate the oil and ensure that is evenly distributed throughout the machine. The 5477NB also has oil bath technology but it does not include a fan for oil circulation.

          38 year old saw
I bought this saw back in 1986 and over the last 38 years it was unstoppable. It finally died 2 days ago and as soon as I can afford it, I'll be getting another one. I recommend this saw to anyone looking for one.

This Saw is a Tank! Multi Killer
Update my Review: This Saw is a Tank! Well build Quality Japanese Genuine Parts from Japan BUT assembled in China. Not just that this saw is being a tank, but overkill for Woodworks, Lumbers and Multiple Materials all you need is just a good quality variety of saw blades. Technically you are holding a Chainsaw in a circular Form! That's what this is! I love it and highly recommend it!

This is a very nice saw with plenty of power and adjustments that work well. Also you can push a button to lock it for changing the blade. If I were to carp about small issues I would say that even with the magnesium it's heavier than the usual sidewinder design. It lurches sideways slightly when you turn it on so that it's necessary to wait a moment before cutting, but I assume that's the case with all worm drives. You have to put it down on its side or it will fall over. The table portion fills up with sawdust so that you have to shake it upside down before putting it away. Possibly the magnesium table will be more easily damaged by abusive treatment. It's compatible with the Milescraft saw guide, i.e. rip fence, but you need to get a short 6mm bolt to clamp it. Also it doesn't fit perfectly so you must make sure the bar is shifted towards the back of the saw. All in all it's worked out great for me, and I'm completely happy.

Built rugged so anticipate it will last longer than the Kobalt that caught on fire.
