Product Details

Makita delivers corded grinding performance without the cord with the 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 4-1/2 in. or 5 in. Cut-Off/Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch (model XAG11Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately). It's powered by a Makita brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. For the most demanding applications, Makita's exclusive Automatic Speed Change Technology automatically adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimal performance. For added convenience, the XAG11Z has an electric brake that stops the wheel in 2-seconds or less upon release of the paddle switch. The XAG11Z is ideal for grinding, cutting and sanding a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit and more. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the Star Symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

During operation, if the tool is put under heavy load, Automatic Speed Change™ detects the added demand and applies more torque and speed to finish the job. Makita cordless tools with Automatic Speed Change™ are engineered to deliver corded performance, without the cord. The speed control dial on the XAG16Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 4-1/2” / 5" Cut-Off/Angle Grinder, with Electric Brake, Tool Only is as an additional feature, but it is also equipped with Automatic Speed Change™ technology.

        Purchased this product to remove rust scale and flaking paint off of several shipping containers....
        Purchased this product to remove rust scale and flaking paint off of several shipping containers. Distant location from electricity and lots of ladder work dictated a smaller, lighter grinder. Used with twisted knot cone brush and wheel it made a daunting job almost fun. After the first day I was able to use it with one hand or the other which greatly extended the reach from the ladder. I would recommend hearing protection when grinding sheet metal like this, along with a dust mask to reduce inhalation hazards. With the 5AH batteries supplied, I was able to get about 40 minutes of constant work out of a charge. The second battery was almost always charged up by then, so there was very little interruption in the work flow waiting for batteries to charge. A couple days of priming with corrosion sealant and they took two coats of high gloss enamel like a charm. Lowered the temp inside them by 30 degrees.

        It's very lite and quiet compared to corded. But power wise you can't tell the difference between a corded grinder and it. You Just need to upgrade to a couple 6amp hr rated batteries. So you have decent run time. So I'm very happy with the purchase.
