Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Bryan, this would not be the tool for cutting polypropylene.
This tool is designed only for mild steel and stainless steel.
by|Jun 22, 2015
A:Â Probably not. The opening where the 2 blades meet do not open up far enough to cut 1/8" materials
by|Jan 10, 2018
A:Â Yes, this shear can handle a 1/8 inch polypropylene sheet.

Makita Sheet Metal Shear
Have had 2 of these and it goes through 18 ga. material like butter. The square 4 cornered cutting blades have a possible 16 changes to compensate for wear and I am still on the first one after over 2 years of use. Highly recommend this tool.

Been using this on 18 gauge stainless and it cuts it easily. Leaves the steel with some bend that needs to be straightened but it cuts quite a bit easier than a power shear. Plus it avoids a lot of waste because you can change directions and there is no middle piece that needs to be discarded.

I rate Makita above Bosch and DeWalt in terms of reliability and convenience to work with. I have few Makita drills and other tools around my sheet-metal shop and I absolutely love them. I used Bosch 1500C shear for ~10 years and so I decided to try something different so I got this Makita shear. First, it does not cut any radius, straight line only. Second, that bolt holding top blade is obstructing my view and I do not see where the line is. Hugely disappointed. It probably was designed long time ago and needs redesigning. I have to go back to Bosch shear. Nothing wrong with Bosch 1500C shear except that I heard its not in production anymore.
